I'm pretty sure this use of the word is meant to be insulting and denigrating. Racist comment in my view. What do you all think?

Nick who?

It is a bad choice of words, and could be stirred into a right old tea cup storm.

You only get an oo with typhoons.

The guys just a moron, UKIP are now in 3rd place, Cleggy needs to wake up and smell the coffee! Look at the poles, only 19% said CMD was wrong to use the veto but how many of those would have been influenced by the BBC's continuous propaganda stream?

Easy way to check is to replace the word with something else.

“A Britain that leaves the EU will be considered irrelevant by Washington and will be a pygmy in the world when I want us to stand tall in the world,”

Is the original.

“A Britain that leaves the EU will be considered irrelevant by Washington and will be confined to a wheelchair in the world when I want us to stand tall in the world,”

“A Britain that leaves the EU will be considered irrelevant by Washington and will be a dwarf in the world when I want us to stand tall in the world,”

I'd say that perhaps yes, he is making a link between physical stature and diplomatic stature. Sarkozy will be annoyed.

Nice thoughts, but I think you will find that Pygmies are a race, just like Negros, not a handicap like wheelchair users or dwarves.

2. ( lowercase ) a small or dwarfish person.
3. ( lowercase ) anything very small of its kind.

It has a wider meaning than just small people.

That trying to play the race card, especially when I assume you are not in the target race is a tragically British post '97 thing to attempt to do. Looks like the drip feed of PC has infiltrated even the die hard right wing of PH.

Sad really.

The word gay has several meanings, but that still caused an enormous clusterfk thread.

Yes, unless the target person hears the racism it's absolutely OK. Racism is 100% fine as long as the lot you are being racist about don't hear it.

Just to clarify, I don't care much for pygmies, I don't think the pygmy comment is racist or makes Clegg racist, I am not remotely offended by it or offended on behalf of anyone else. hehe

I am hoping people of significant stature will be offended on my behalf.

The only people who can be offended are pygmies, strange use of words when he could have just said small but who cares.

What about the British, he said we'd end up like pigmies. That's an insult, pigmies are rubbish.
