Here in the USA there have been a spate of "secret santas" who have been going into Kmart, Walmart etc.. and paying peoples "layaway" bills, often amounting to a few hundred dollars. They've been picking people with children and have done it all anonymously. A lot of less well off people have had a nice Christmas thanks to them.

I like that. I'd like to think I'd do that kind of thing if I had the money

....I have been known to give the odd fiver and more here and there to the needy.....I think it stems from when I gave a "tramp"....and yes they were called tramps back in the fifties....."gentlemen of the road"....I could have been only about ten years old at the time or less and I gave the old boy my Christmas pressie of half a crown (two shillings and six pence)....it was in Ealing where I live now....my Grandma who was with me threw a fit....I think it was her that gave me the two and six in the first place.....ah well....I hope the old boy got some joy from it.....although my Grandma was less than impressed....that's life....smile
