Multiculturalism and integration

We read about multiculturalism and how it is actively sought by those who rule us with their laws and policies but can someone explain to me why it is viewed as being beneficial to our society ?
The powers that be have to brainwash everyone into thinking its beneficial, because they'd be branded racist if they suggested otherwise. The reality is, this country would be a much nicer place to live if everyone in it were white and Christian.
And that's coming from a staunch atheist.

Agree with the 1st line. The reality is, this country would be a much nicer place to live if everyone in it were white and Christian.

I think the world as a whole would be a better place if there was no religion at all.
As for skin colour I don't think thats the concern, its more about the cultures of those coming here and the ghettoisation of inner citys that occours because people natuarally wish to live amongst their own.
They therefor never need to learn the indigenous language and often seek to implement the ways of the country they left behind.

I personally believe we are enriched by learning about other cultures and by having people integrated into our society we can learn from them and become "better" people, by that I mean more tolerant of others. Though I would say that IME (I've been to a few other countries) the UK IS one of the most tolerant in the world. The problem with UK immigration is that we don't do enough of what other countries do and that's discriminate between well educated, wealthy and generally nice immigrants vs the ones who just come here for welfare, health benefits etc and are unlikely to ever be net contributers to the economy.

The reason we are pre-eminent in banking is that we made the Jews the most welcome (look up the Rothschilds). The reason English is spoken worldwide is that it absorbs foreign words easily. There are hundreds of examples of how foreign influence has made us better as a country.
The issue is however that for centuries people who came here were expected to get on with it. No allowances were made for their customs or language; if they wanted to succeed they had to do it on our terms, and that was clear from the moment they stepped off the boat. If they wanted to maintain their customs behind closed doors that was fine, but it had better not affect the neighbours.
However Multiculturalism said it was OK for immigrant communities to retain their identities; in fact it was a breach of their human rights to not do so. Allowances had to be made for them in many aspects of society as a result. This was thought to be a natural continuation of the immigration policy above, but it has run completely out of control.

Excellent post. That expresses my views on living like us because that's what makes England what it is much better than I can ever put.The issue is however that for centuries people who came here were expected to get on with it. see, I am of the opinion that when you legislate too much you create all sorts of problems, the human rights act is sound in principle but is open to too much abuse by feckless chancers out to play the system.
a national policy of fit in or f
k off is needed.
by its very nature the idea that some sections of society need special rules and treatment is racist.

By definition you can't have a "multicultural society" it is an a contradiction. A society is defined by it's culture.Edited by pilchardthecat on Tuesday 27th December 20:16
A friend of mine emigrated to Australia in the late 60s. He loved the place but said he tended to avoid the British who had tried to stay English/Scottish/Welsh in a foreign country. He said you could generally tell them by the fact that they wore buckled sandals with socks rather than flipflops, then well into fashion.
He reckoned that the non-flip flop brigade were the unhappy ones, always wanting change and whose conversation always revolved around how much better it was 'back home'. I've found it similar in this country. Those who fail to take on the culture, dress and way of life of the natives are the ones who often give all the aggro.
Mind you, failing to integrate has a great history: the British in India in suits during the monsoon, the Americans in Hawaii with their red full length underwear at all times, and most foreign occupying country's nationals. They know best.
