Where to start?

Article said:
India’s Finance Minister has said that his country “does not require” British aid, describing it as “peanuts”.
How about "OK then!"?

Unbelievable indeed. If they don't want it, fair play to them, lets keep it. No doubt though there's a whole fking bunch of govt non-jobs employed to administer it.

DFID declined to comment on why it had asked the Indian government to continue with a programme it wanted to end.
Well, that's all right then.

May have something to do with this:

Article said:
In India, meanwhile, government audit reports found £70 million had disappeared from one DFID-funded project alone.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds was spent on delivering more than 7,000 televisions to schools — most of which did not have electricity. Few of the televisions ever arrived. A further £44,000 of British aid was allegedly siphoned off by one project official to finance a movie directed by her son.
The only way to discover the truth is to find out where it's all disappearing to. Not that it will happen.

Well quite!

It's not the state-sponsored bribery that annoys me, or even the hypocrisy of Western governments introducing anti-corruption laws so that only they can do it.

It's the staggeringly poor ROI which really gets to me!

Not sure bribes matter. I expect some Indian bigwigs want to be cut loose from British dependency. Lots of good and bad blood from the days of empire I expect.

Well done, India.

The purpose of "aid" is not to help people, it is part of the strategy of keeping the well-oiled "Third Sector" machine running; the charidees, the agencies, the NGOs. The last thing they want is an independent, prosperous "third" world joining the first world. They want dependent brown people dragged into the progressiviest, greenist, maelstrom of the Progressive Left who dominate the West at the moment.

The purpose of "Aid" is not aid at all, it is hegemony. It's time it was stopped entirely.

Would it not be easier to find 'brown people' of a slightly different shade to serve our needs, than to try and hold our influence over a billion people with brown envelopes?

It sounds like drivel to me.

This is pretty annoying. Not only are we taken for fools about this 'aid' as it turns out it was a bribe, but we're really crap at bribing as well.

So a country in receipt of aid from the UK tell our dear politicians that they really do not need it any more, however the aid is still given as it would be 'politically embarrasing' to stop it when it had been justified to us by politicians.
Really think some tt who refused to own up to getting it wrong owes us £1.2 billion.
Any of you fine gents know who made the decision to send this aid after it was refused?

‘Aid’ to India can surely only is an economic bribe. If a country decides to start a space program while its citizens are starving in slums then our contribution will almost certainly never make it to those who need it most.
Wasn’t Cameron over there last year trying to drum up trade? He didn’t exactly make an impression did he.
