Given that the FCO don't even regard India as a friendly country, and the number of people currently unemployed, controversial to say the least :

What an appalling article! Is it the London Congestion Charge or the DVLA moving data to India?!

Either way, government institutions should never off-shore.

Would that be the same India who are seemingly constantly at the centre of data loss scandals and whose data protection policies are most decidedly not compatible with our own?

You have to love this race to the bottom, it’s almost as though this country is being destroyed and offshored bit by bit as part of some grand master plan

Sadly this is what happens when Government services are outsourced ( usually to non-UK companies ) - EDS ran their contract with DWP on a shoestring for years, using the profit to prop up the loss making US side of their operation while giving poor service to the DWP, before eventually offshoring a lot of the operation and getting rid of UK staff ( I know, I was one of those who lost their jobs because of this ).

20 years ago it was all done in house, and while the Civil Service may not be the most efficient of operations, at least most of the money remained within the UK economy instead of going abroad to pay offshore staff and as profits to these foreign companies
