I think the sentence is a disgrace.
Should be more than double that.Morally we may all argue about the rights and wrongs of what the law allows but, on a site full of motoring enthusiasts, I'd find it surprising if the consensus was that Death by Careless should have a maximum sentence greater than 5 years. After all, you're punishing someone for 'merely' falling below the standard expected of a careful and competent driver, examples of which would be pulling out of a junction without looking properly or undertaking.

On what basis? I've given my opinion on the thread in SP&L, but the maximum sentence for the crime he pleaded guilty to is 5 years. With the discount for that guilty plea applied, the sentence handed down in this case is about as high as it possibly could be.

He was already disqualified so by stealing a car he clearly doesn't care about his first punishment. He crashed and ran away which I can almost live with, maybe he was in shock but he then stole another car.Morally we may all argue about the rights and wrongs of what the law allows but, on a site full of motoring enthusiasts, I'd find it surprising if the consensus was that Death by Careless should have a maximum sentence greater than 5 years. He was told by a court not to drive, but he did, then he stole a car.....
ETA: The careless driving bit, assuming he was sober he made a mistake while driving, these things happen so yes he should get the punishment for that crime, 5 years. However it's the fact he was already banned etc.

There can be variations either way, but generally sentences for multiple offences arising from the same incident would run concurrently rather than consecutively. I don't know what the case law is regarding concurrent sentences where driving whilst disqualified and TWOC occur with a driving standards offence carrying a custodial sentence. I can see how it would be possible for the Perp in this case to be found guilty of all three and receive 3 custodial sentences, to run concurrently. If that's the case, then he's still been imprisoned for the longest he could realistically be (Theft can carry up to 7 years, I think, but there's nothing to say his theft offence should be near the top of the scale). He was told by a court not to drive, but he did, then he stole a car.....
