Looks like he wanders straight into the road, gets knocked down and then it's all me me me on the BBC and his mother supporting his poor understanding of crossing the road?

I understand why the Police have to follow it through being a criminal case etc. it's just the whole media slant in favour of a jaywalker who arguably got what he deserved going by the CCTV, that I'm not keen on.

Er - whether or not it was the "jaywalker's" (no such offence in the UK, by the way - what he did was not illegal) fault, the driver should have bloody well stopped, and prosecuted for failing to do so. No way he didn't notice that impact.

Looks like he didn't cross the road properly (it was early hours of a Sunday morning; presume he'd been out on the piss so possibly tipsy/drunk) but also the car was, imo, going too quickly in an environment that clearly has a lot of people milling about and - as mentioned - likely to be pissed. The fact the car didn't stop proves the driver's a in the first place if nothing else.

I'm not disputing the issue around failure to stop blah blah. It's the attention he's getting as if it was all the driver's fault and he is an absolute angel who didn't contribute anything to the resultant mowing down. That's what grinds with me.

Bloke walks out in front of a car -His fault tough st. car didn't stand a reasonable chance of stopping. it wasn't invisible bloke didn't look fk him and his crutches.

Car that hit him didn't stop- should get prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

When a used to taxi a few years back I got used to get people jumping out in front of me pretty regular on a weekend.

Absolute nightmare driving round town. Few WKD's and everybodys a hardman.

The USA as we know does have an offence for pedestrians behaving in this way and quite right it is too. We are all under a duty of care but pedestrians are squishy and primarily their own responsibility, even if they eat mints on the move.

Yes prosecute the driver for failing to stop, then get on with a civil case to have a fiver a week taken from benefits (if relevant and possible) or wages to pay for the damage repair, purely to remind a lucky Darwin candidate of the facts of life.

A new offence of putting your inebriated carcass in front of a motor vehicle seems to be in order.
