These Socialist nutters & Eco loons want to ban all Cars older than 17 years & Lorries 18 years old, & Motorcycles & Scooters 8 years old !!from Paris within two years.
If this happens you can be sure the 'me too' brigade here will jump on the bandwagon at the earliest opportunity.

stupid French eco nutter commie said:
Other measures unveiled on Monday included one to erect toll barriers on cross-city motorways for lorries. Eco-taxes will be also imposed for those using Paris' inner ring road, le périphérique, with heavy vehicles tracked via satellite or number plate recognition.

The idea, the mayor said, is to "progressively and in a concerted manner" ban all lorries from driving in or around the capital.
So how are they going to get stuff delivered?

Exactly, these tts think that the little french move it fairys come in and deliver all their frenchypoo stuff under cover of le darkness and that a paris free of the camion wil be a paradise of traffic free avenues lined with trees and other lovelyness.

What is it about motor vehicles that seems to bring out the worst case of unnecessary intefering in people with a tiny little bit of power ?

While I agree that some regulation is necessary I think the boundaries have long since been reached and crossed.

Hasn't it already been proved that the older the car is the greener its carbon footprint is?

i.e you are not using tons and tons of carbon making a new one.

You have to look at what the hidden agenda could be here.
The thing is that driverless cars are coming, be it in 5 - 10 or 15 - 20 years.
It makes it much easier for the manufacturers if the pesky 'old' cars are off the road making room for the drone cars to run unhindered, so, I'm sure plans are already in motion by the Manufacturers to move towards this utopian dream. If they haven't then I'd be amazed as they have to try to predict future makets & technology and plan accordingly..the early tech for driverless already works.
I can't see digital driverless cars working alongside existing analog vehicles
This legislation will come in by the back door..how will they manage to achive this?
Notice how the Kit car industry was almost regulated out of existence when it started to get too popular some years ago, also the London Emisission Zone effectively got rid of all Diesel vehicles in London over 10 years old at a stroke of a pen (I've not noticed any better air quality)
Scrappage schemes anyone?
Big cities all over Europe are introducing these 'Low Emission Zones, once in place the goalposts can be moved at will, Paris now proposing an arbitrary 17 year cut-off, why not less, much less, like 5 years? smoke & mirrors all using the ruse of 'clean air' to sell it to the Sheeple.

Not to mention that 'counting carbons' is the pastime of uninformed or gullible or culpable fools. And uninformed gullible fools. Etc.

I wouldn't drive it in Paris anyway. I don't like dents.

ps I don't think we would stand for it I definitely don't think they would.

But there's all the pollution associated with making steel, paint, plastics and disposal of the old car.

Regardless of your views on CO2 making a new car is not a clean process.

For anyone who's ever driven on the Paris peripherique (I have, many times) the only thing that needs banning are the demented Frogs who treat it as a cross between their own personal racetrack and a kamikaze training exercise.

Whose agenda? The evil left wing barsteward in charge in Frog Land or the Torygraph?

Has anybody stopped to wonder about:

a) the legitimacy of the story in the first place
b) the likelihood of the proposal being adopted

Just because things are proposed doesn't mean they happen. Now who was that Tory Minister back in the Major government who said "Road tolls are coning, and you'd better get used to it" ? scratchchin

Indeed. Makes the M25 look like a mass IoM day out.

The only car I would own driving in Paris is either a battered Landy or a 15 year old 205 with more filler than metal. It could only be a car that I don't give a damn about.

Maybe you were one of the many that laughed and said they would never manage to ban smoking in pubs?

Nothing will change in the future, ever, it will always be the same as now....
Actually that's not quite true is it? even though we can't possibly know what the future may hold we can safely assume motoring will be more expensive, more regulated and less fun

It's almost as if the French car manufacturers are in trouble and the French Government can't afford a proper scrappage scheme...
