Saudi execution
Discussion
"Saudi Arabia has beheaded a Sri Lankan domestic worker for killing a baby in her care in 2005 in a case that has been widely condemned by rights groups."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-20959228
"Ms Nafeek was convicted in 2007 of murdering four-month-old baby Naif al-Quthaibi, whom she was caring for in 2005.
She said that an initial confession was made under duress and without linguistic assistance. Supporters say that she also had no access to lawyers before her conviction.
Human rights groups including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (HRW) have criticised the Saudi authorities for their handling of the case, as have campaigners in Sri Lanka, who argue that there were also serious translation problems at the time she confessed to the crime."
Those that have lived there will know all about the Saudi State and "rights", one has to wonder whether we should, as a state, withdraw and transfer support to the Persians....

Yup, it is a godless and truly awful place all the moreso for hiding behind this unholy alliance with us. Some people, you just shouldn't do business withThe place is truly barbaric and fked up.
My cousin was in the Military Police about ten years back. Long story short, he and another officer had to go into Riyadh (on hindsight they reckon the timing of their appointment was deliberate) on a Friday, which is punishment and execution day. He said the crowd thronging into the main square virtually dragged them with them and then thrust them to the front to witness the punishment, as this would apparently (them being infidels and the who place being fked up, as aforementiond) bring more shme of the families of those convicted. Needless to say, the families didn't want them there and were trying to beat them back and my cousin said they both feared for their safety, so ran out the only way they could see - over the 'stage' at the frint of the square. Which pissed everyone off, but they managed to meet their driver before anyone caught up with them.

Doesn't surprise me. There are many levels of 'justice' in the Middle East, and if you're an immigrant worker (well, an Asian one anyway) you’re pretty much fked before you start.
I can only imagine what Saudi will be like once the oil runs out, or at least a better source it found, I guess they'll wake up one morning wondering where everyone went and why none of their close western allies are answering the phone anymore.

Indeed. Stuff global warming etc - alternative energy sources should be researched so the world can let these medieval nutjobs return to the relative obscurity of goat herding in poverty.I can only imagine what Saudi will be like once the oil runs out, or at least a better source it found, I guess they'll wake up one morning wondering where everyone went and why none of their close western allies are answering the phone anymore.
Perhaps then they will look at the advantages of an educated and informed population and equal employment rights for women etc and maybe get with the program.

I don't know what London would do without the Saudi visitors though. It's a major boost to the capital's economy that these devoutly religious people come here for months at a time to gamble in our casinos, drink our whisky and screw our prostitutes.TwigtheWonderkid said:
