Take a look at this clip. It's not a war zone it's a town with civilians in and a car of people who may or may not be involved in drugs.

Strafed from above by helicopter cars buildings anything else gets sprayed too. Passer by? Hey why stop shooting this is fun. Just shoot up the street

Just amazing. But not in a good way.

0:31 bullets striking ground around a bloke just riding his motorbike. Hope they didn't go through him.

It's like something from a Hollywood movie. Or Max Payne 3.

Longer clip here not as edited shows more people in the street in the line of fire and a large dark building is sprayed
Looks like one biker escapes around a corner another bloke just standing as bullets strike around him.

Hard to know if the police or drug dealers are more dangerous to the public in that situation. They were in a helicopter, would you not just wait for the pilot to manoeuvre into a good spot before shooting?

You would if you valued human life or had even the remotest chance of being held responsible for your actions.

Its the same over here. We had a prominent local councilor heavily criticise the police helicopter for using its big light in a village. She said it was too bright for night-time.

Some of these helicopter crews have no thought for the local population.

Certain Brazilians might disagree.

I forgot another one, a classic. A helicopter crew were attempting, and succeeding, to get a line to a chap who had fallen over the edge of a cliff. Difficulties included trying not to blow the bloke off the ledge he was holding onto. This would have been considered a bad thing. So they tried some clever stuff and fixed the line and he was rescued. We got a complaint that the helio had flown so close to the cliff that bits of chalk had been dislodged and had fallen onto the footway below where children were standing, watching the drama unfold.

When it was pointed out by the inspector that the parents/guardians of these children should, perhaps, have taken them away rather than risk seeing a man fall to his death or at the very least be seriously injured she was told that the helicopter pilot must have been able to see the children.

I'd say they actually ARE messing around.

They had him clear in the crosshairs for 17 seconds and didn't take the shot - instead, they waited until the car was on the move before firing - and thus practically strafing the entire street.

Complete and utter muppets, imo.

Thing is certain favelas are effectively war zones. Where else do civilians routinely use tracer rounds, night vision and are in constant urban conflict with the police and special forces? I believe a lot of the slums have been cleared up recently, but the reality is there is still a war going on everyday.

Blimey, why don't the Brazilian Police just go all the way and get some drones or an Apache gunship ?

That's probably true and I believe police helicopters need to be armed. I think some have been shot down.

However shooting up a street to get a car that isn't shooting at you putting the lives of at least three Innocents in danger possibly more is obviously out of order.

This footage was leaked and there are little details about what damage was done or if any civilians were injured.

One of the car passengers was found a day later dead.
