Watching a stream of him being grilled by MPs.

Coming across as bit smug, over confident and acting as if the questioning is beneath him...

Let's be honest, those MP's committees are usually a waste of time since the MPs are usually poorly-prepared, don't understand the issues and/or are a bit thick. Most of the time they are a way for the backbenchers we have all forgotten about to do a bit of grandstanding.

Not sure why you take a dislike to Mark Carney - he's only been in the job 5 minutes and is currently presiding over one of the few European economies whose indicators are going in the right direction - not all down to him, clearly, but I can't see much to kick him for at the moment, choice in wives apart.

Unless, of course, they're grilling a certain floral Reverent, where they'll almost certainly be the better informed of that particular gathering!

to be fair it usually is. the questions are idiotic, the only purpose of which is to make the mp feel important, they don't even care about the answer.

Can't say I know the guy. From your description, is he by any chance a banker?

Exactly...any committee with Keith Vaz in it deserves short thrift IMO.

The short clip I saw on the BBC website today showed an MP not really asking a question but making a statement and expecting Carney to reply to it, trying to politicise the situation instead of getting an answer. Politicians eh..........

Only the governor of the Bank of England. Oh dear Ozzy what are your thoughts on empty vessels making the loudest noise?

Ridiculous. And ultimately, pointless. He's found his way on to PH. We all know that if he genuinely didn't know the guy, he'd check Google. A child's way of making a point.

Can’t he just adopt a policy of answering stupid questions with single word answers?

Ask me my opinion of his policies in a couple of decades and I might be able to assemble some vaguely reasonable answer. It's just way too early to tell.

True enough. All he's done so far is say he isn't going to do anything for a while.

It appears Carney may resign earlier than expected. I'm no economist but I don't imagine that will be good for the economy - more uncertainty is the last thing we need.

Wouldn't blame him. I don't remember the job being so politicised even when Gordon Brown was running around saving the world.

Can't say I blame him.

He saves the UK from brexit incompetence, and all he gets in return is abuse.

He probably is not being made to feel very welcome is he?

Like many foreigners, perhaps he can't leave quickly enough.

I'm not sure how much pressure the papers/MP's can actually put on him, but he does seem to be in the position where any decisions he makes which benefit the UK will be attributed to that Brexit thing he warned us about and he is therefore a moron, and any negative consequences will be his fault entirely.

Making the role independent of government seemed like a sensible idea at the time, but now I think (like the Independent commission that sets MPs pay) that anything a government makes independent is just to divert the flack away from themselves when things go wrong.

Bloomberg article says he had always intended leaving in 2018, so don't see the fuss?

Pretty much this. You have morons criticising him who can't even figure out that it's MPC that sets the rates. Then again, this is PH, where Musk is clueless, Zuckerberg is just lucky, but incompetent. Still very entertaining.
