It would be great to have most of them say....No Thanks, I'm not worthy when so many others really deserve it.

Like that will ever happen.

Surprising not to find this in N, P & E but 'nonentities'? Have you read all 124 pages of the list?

Nice to see Trevor Hicks and Margaret Aspinall get CBE's for their campaigning for 25 years.

All 1164 recipients of the 2015 New Year Honours List here:

When words have finished failing you, perhaps you could tell us which ones are nonentities?

"Some 45 per cent of those recommended for senior awards are women and 65 per cent are from ethnic minorities."

Is there overt positive discrimination?

Objections to Fiona Wolff receiving an honour because she has dinner with a former Home Secretary is absurd.

Scanning through the list of recipients, I suspect the Telegraph are missing a decimal place in the percentage awarded to ethnic minorities.

This!
The whole sordid, sorry honours and House of Lords travesty should be consigned to the waxworks museum. No place in a modern world.

Can someone explain why James Corden is there ? I don't like his work, but am I missing something he is just one of a few hundred people who appear on TV ?

Done something for charity probably.

A woman from Merseyside got an MBE for fostering over 200 kids. That's where these awards should go to normal folk doing something rewarding not minor celebs.

But how will we know who donated the most money or did the biggest favours for our political parties?

Strangely perverse to be honoured by the people who have been lying to you for the last 25 years

I agree.

I don't have a problem with people like John Hurt gaining an award, it's a recognition of his career as a good actor. But An MBE for Jamal Edwards? He's 24 and started a YouTube Chanel which helped launch a few singers on the road to fame. Wow, that really does deserve an MBE.

Edited to correct iPhone induced typos.

This has all the hallmarks of the powers-that-be making a horribly hamfisted attempt to appeal to the "youth" (anyone under 40) in an effort to keep the honours system relevant.

James fking Corden OBE FFS.

On the flip side, a colleague has just been awarded the MBE for services to IT. Many people haven't heard of what we do or his role in it, but suffice to say, every HE/FE/sixth form student, and all researchers, use the service every day and have done for 30 years. He was instrumental in bringing a world class service to fruition that genuinely improves research, education, and collaboration in the UK.
