Good news if this happens.

But what on earth are the Brexiters moaning about now? Apparently it would be "Totally unacceptable" for our citizens to continue enjoying the freedoms they have had for decades? Also, in what way would this be "discriminatory"?

I would happily opt in if you would. Your posts are some of the most thought provoking, intelligent and socially aware I have ever read on any forum.

Sounds OK to me. But what is in the small print? Will it cost? Who pays for the MEP elections? Brussels? Bring it on.
Completely unworkable as the UK courts will over-ride the ECJ. But if they offer it, what the hell take it. We dont have to offer them anything.

Where is the evidence of anyone moaning about this?

Maybe they've seen additional details that aren't being broadcast?? What is in it for the EU?

Great news for all those worried about retiree Doris in Magaluf though. Remind me, which "side" were whinging the most about ability to travel and how the world would end without being able to move freely and how the EU would never allow it etc.

I would happily so opt-in.

I thought it immensely amusing to see the Brexit rage at this (elegant idea to enfranchise those who wish) as 'discriminatory'(!)

- given that yes, it is, on a personal basis: and I, and doubtless many others, would like to distance my/ourself(ves) from fellow citizen fkwits who've put us in a position not of our choosing. As such we'll readily take it, and the responsibilities that come with, thanks very much.

I'd happily pay a sub for this, EU citizenship has real value.

Provided that there is no attatched small print (which based on the article there isn't) what actual downsides would there be to this and what argument could brexit supporters meaningfully lodge against it? The only one I could see is that if opt in-ers demand protections offered by EU courts but not UK courts but i'm sure that could be negotiated (I.e UK courts tell folks to bugger off to the continent for their protections).

The Brexit supporter in the article couldnt seem to lodge anything meaningful other than spitting the dummy that the 48% of the voting population actually recieve a runner up prize.

Depends on the small print. Pay up but what do actually get. Probably not much more than you will have anyway even after Brexit. There is no such thing as EU citizenship, its a myth. Please tell me that France or Germany will consider you a national when push comes to shove.

So let me get this straight, you get to work and live in the EU by 'opting in to EU citizenship' (whatever the fvck that means) but EU citizens don't get the same rights in UK? Riiiiight 'cos that's going to happen. I thought it was the Brexiters who were supposed to be thick!

This is brilliant, best of both worlds.
to those whom europe matters... opt in.
to those that is dosent, great.

and i assume membership will come with a stiff annual cost. i wonder how much that will be ? ho often will you need to renew ?
or will the EU attempt to levy a heavy fee on UK plc to allow brits to do this without direct personal cost.. or even in addition to personal cost?

What's our net contribution per day in the UK? About £30 million? I guess the EU would like some contribution from those who opt in, given one of their main concerns with our desire to leave is the loss of income.

I'd go for it but I suspect there will some kind of taxation involved.

"Jayne Adye, director of the Get Britain Out campaign described the proposal as divisive and said it was “totally unacceptable” for British people to retain the advantages of EU membership."

Advantages ? I thought GBO said during their campaign that there were no advantages to staying in the EU !

There isn't, it's still only a proposal and there was no mention of it during their campaign.
Not that I agree with either her or her party.

I voted leave, but if they offer this for free I'll take it just to avoid passport queues at the airport (and to be able to vote against everything the Remainers want Europe to be, because I'm a thick racist obvs.)

.....which is why it'll come with a hefty price tag; year one the virtue signallers will pay en-masse, then subsequent years the numbers will dwindle when they realise that they're getting nothing of substance for their hard-earned.

Sounds like the UK remaining in the EU but only EU enthusiasts being allowed to vote in EU elections.
