I loved the way the woman was saying the security guard should stop him even though the thief was waving an axe at him. Not sure he's paid enough to tackle an axe-wielding thug.

Agreed.

The only realistic and sensible thing worth considering is if there are quite few people willing to 'pile on' him. Even then someone risks being hit with the axe.

What if they'd have driven into him with a car? Would that be allowed?

Knowing this country, you'd probably do 5 years and lose your licence.

It's interesting you mention that as I was thinking what I would likely consider doing and that popped up.

I think I could form a strong argument it would be lawful providing it wasn't done at silly speed (which you'd struggle to get up to in a car park).

good point re security guards and being paid buttons though.

one night recently someone smashed 24 of our grd flr windows and wrote " you're all knuts " (you know what I mean) in spray paint on the car park surface.

our nightime guard sat in reception doing nothing.

personally- albeit perhaps stupidly: I and other colleagues, over the years, have had to tackle people in our receptions with various nasty things things, or throwing stuff (this is in housing and homeless services): pending the police arriving. must admit in the homeless service we had plod in on a daily basis, such is the client group you deal with.

Wythenshawe. Regrettably, enough said.

I did my first year's engineering applications workshops at (what was) the college there. From what friends who are based in the area tell me, it's got a fair bit worse over the years too.

Why 'grd' and 'flr' but all other words spelled out fully?

Similarly you generally write 'your' as 'yr'.

Just curious.

Call that an axe? They thief cannot be very well ,surely? The penalty for waving an axe about would be more serious than for pinching the bike

They just don't care. The chances of them being caught for either offence are vanishingly small and they know it. Plus, even when they are caught, they're in jail (often with mates) for minimal time.

If you went up against the guy with enough hardware to properly defend yourself, you'd end up in an lengthy court case at the very least and probably lose your job.

Running him over? You'd be paying out for your own car and probably get points. And you'd get sued by the victim, ending up in a lengthy court case and vast expense.

Security guard has to be aware of both of the above and is not paid enough to care. I certainly wouldn't get involved, you'd be extraordinarly lucky to come out with a good solution.
