She even pulled herself into the table leg FFS, I encounter several dangerous hazards during a normal shift so I suppose my danger radar is better than most, but really. £20K for banging your own knee on a table leg.

From the article...

"O’Connor claimed she immediately felt pain and shock but had her meal before retiring to her room where staff had brought her an ice pack and a drink to settle her nerves"

Poor woman. At least she managed to push through the pain barrier to finish her food though eh? World's gone mad.

"Contributory negligence could not be applied to the Ms O’Connor as she had been specifically directed to the table and could not reasonably have been expected to have embarked upon an investigation as to where the legs were."

Embarked upon an investigation as to where the legs were! What the actual fk.

Well to be fair when you sit down where you are told, you dont expect a leg to be there that will shatter your knee into a million pieces give you a mild ouchy smile

It's not so much the compensation culture i blame but the moronic judges that award such judgements. If they can't use a dab of common sense and tell the clamiant to man the fk up and take responsibility for their actions they are just as much to blame imho

In my town, when someone spots a broken paving stone they tell their mates after "arranging" their own accident, so everyone can benefit. It's all part of the game. Compo = kids' Christmas presents sorted.

I can see why they awarded it as she was directed towards the table and as the chair was pulled out for her as she perhaps wouldn't have known the leg was there, she shouldn't have got 20k awarded though.

I think this one tops the list of all that's wrong with our compensation culture, woman injures her leg (self inflicted) on bus then as she has to wait for an ambulance so claims PTSD sues and gets awarded over half a million as a payout!

laws are there for lawyers to make money. i think there should be commonsense laws, like whiplash claims and hurt news. if a layperson thought it was stupid then they shouldn't be able to claim.

What are tables normally held up with? Hopes and dreams?
