Way back when this was all fields, there was a discussion on PH forming a political party.

'We' worked out that if we could get the right people to stand in the right number of constituencies and worked together, then we all knew enough people to get them to vote for "my mate" & we could win.

Is it time? Could we get organised in time?

i am convinced if someone started a party and called it the 'common sense party' - with enough exposure (social media enough?) it would absolutely slaughter the main parties.

to me, the problem is choice - they are all as bad as each other so you pick the one you most identify with, and personally i think none of the current ones actually have a grip on the real world.

So, who's in?

Well about a third of us find another thirds views vomit inducing (and vice versa) and the other third will probably go along with whoever can shout the loudest. So our party will fit in with both the Tories and Labour.

Now all we need is a leader we can unite behind the idea of hating.

I wonder what N Farage is doing this afternoon. I sincerely hope that he will ignore this one and let his 'victory' see the end of his machinations. I admire him for his fortitude and persistence but I think that should be it, shirley.

OK, but since this is a car forum - I assume one of our policies would be to get rid of the fields and make more twisty roads? If so, I'm in.

PH party manifesto, first draft.
More Twisty Roads
Automatic deportation for repeated MLMs
A free MX5 for everyone
F1, Touring cars and other major motorsport events on Free to Air TV
Sale of Polite HiVis made illegal
Lawn Sausage hammers available from all DIY shops
Lower fuel tax
Grandstand re-instated on Saturday afternoon covering the stuff it used to do in the 60s (trials, rallycross, scrambling etc) and not all football, rugby and horse racing.
Anyone who moves to live near a race track and then complains about the noise told to fk off and live somewhere else.
Elephant racing legislation - if overtake exceeds 30 secs, overtaker gets a short term +5mph boost and overtake a -5mph brake.

Will that do for starters smile

Potholes fixed within 24 hours of being able to feel them in any car/bike or childs pram?

No no no. We need fields for the twisty roads to go through.

How about landscaping fields to create more elevation changes. That would give more space for crops and provide a more exciting driving experience. Win win.

I've often thought likewise. Ideally, we'd have a party comprised entirely of professional people having no previous experience of politics and no vested interests in large commercial entities.

For example, doctors, engineers, teachers, accountants, the odd solicitor, that sort of thing. Absolutely no self-serving CEO types or career politicians playing a game of one-upmanship.

It'll never work!

It won't work because those type of people don't know how a "Government" runs. So despite it sounding like a good idea, unless they were to scrap everything and start again, it'd be a disaster to use those people when they have no expertise.

Worse is that, while the MP's are the heads of Government departments, it's civil servants who actually do 95% of the work and it's those who "run" those departments, and they never get sacked/replaced with new blood. So even with completely new "Common Sense" bosses, nothing would actually change until the whole civil service was scrapped and started again.

Basically we could do with a reboot of the entire Government & Civil Service system from Bosses to Workers but that'll never happen.

The problem is, one person's common sense is another persons's absolute lunacy. See any thread on here for details.

Starting from scratch would be too difficult. It would be far more effective to just infiltrate an existing party the way momentum have done with Labour - sure their ideology may be nuts however the way they've managed to gain control of so many of the structures within Labour is quite impressive.

Pothole repair is a great call. For every £ spent by government with our tax receipts on 'x' (insert your preference), a guarantee that the same amount will also be spent on pot hole repair and financial incentives to roadworks repair contractors to finish quickly

Quite, many people would see their party of choice, be it the SNP, UKIP, Cons, Lab, LD, BNP, SSP etc. etc. as the 'Common Sense' Party.

A Technocracy would be an improvement though.

Something along the lines of a 'socialist-nationalist' party.
