Not something you expect to happen in a civilised EU member state...

"Her most recent revelations pointed the finger at Malta’s prime minister, Joseph Muscat, and two of his closest aides, connecting offshore companies linked to the three men with the sale of Maltese passports and payments from the government of Azerbaijan."

They had the Presidency of the EU for a year until June, as I recall.

Well.

That risks the question of how many of the 27 other EU nations do you consider civilised?

How odd that the pro EU MSM is not reporting the death of one of their own (Journalist)

Front page of the Guardian and BBC websites, positively brushed under the carpet.

This isn't unusual in Malta - check Google to see multiple car bombs in the past year alone. Normally they don't manage to kill someone though. Hugely corrupt and large mafia influence, not even hidden. All the locals are aware and talk about it openly.

Malta barely qualifies.

I've heard reports it is believed this was a professional hit, not a local job. As stated above, the regular car bombings don't usually kill anyone, whether by intent or ineptitude.

By all accounts Daphne was an inspiring and brave woman. Her loss will be felt for a long time by anyone wishing to hold the government and associate institutions to account, or to see that being done.

I'm very close to cancelling my holiday, booked to fly on Saturday for half term week.

It was a political murder in a small, cliquey, mafia-like island. The journalist knew she was under threat, as she'd filed a log with police last month, but still didn't take enough precautions for her own safety.

I hope you are not saying it's her own fault she was murdered?

What???

So its her own fault for not checking her car to make sure someone hadn't hidden a bomb under it?

Never let a thought go unexpressed, no matter how unformed or ready for publication. That's the spirit!

Some many years ago I worked on a contract there and can confirm that corruption goes to the highest government level. I was asked to increase prices by 15% on a commodity product if I wanted the business.

It was on most news websites yesterday.

I believe she was also involved in the Panama Papers expose.
