Surprised he was only sentenced to a minimum of 8 years for over 100 rapes eek

Surely he should have been removed from public for life?

Seems a ridiculously short sentence given the scale of his offending. Apparently he was jailed for life with a minimum of eight years, I would have thought life should mean life in this case.

From wiki,”Worboys was convicted at Croydon Crown Court on 13 March 2009 of one count of rape, five sexual assaults, one attempted assault and 12 drugging charges”

So the various other allegations never seemed to turn into actual criminal charges/convictions?

Wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up arrested again before he’s released.

He was convicted ofor less than 10 sesual assualts, not even sure if he was convicted of rape

The police "estimated" there were over 100 victims as he had previous offences and was a cabbie over the country for years. Obvs not all victims came forward, were investigated properly, or scariest of all some victims might never have known they were attacked...

The case was referred to the the IPC

Pretty grim case , makes my stomach sink, poor victims, not easy reading

Personally I don't think there is place in society for people like that, even if they "didnt get cuddles when they were young" (his defence)

I think there’s some artistic license with the prose in today’s report. As mentioned above his conviction includes a rape and five sexual assaults over an 18 month period. After the trial and subsequent furore (google it) over a hundred complaints were subsequently (and, in fairness previously) made but he has not been tried and convicted above the original trial.

To my recollection anyway.

I am not attempting to justify his release on license after only circa a decade inside for a life sentence. I’d have him serve another decade at least.

Can not these other old allegations be tried now? Seems to work fine with 70's celebs

If this is the guy who was the same cab driver in a documentary I watched a while back, then I'm shocked. It took the police a long time and lots of effort to prove it was him.

Given that he'll not be eligible for a black cab license I think he'll walk straight in to an Uber job, given his CV.

He wasn't sentenced to 8 years.

He's served 10 and is out on licence.

That's not what he was convicted of though. I have no idea how they know how many rapes and sexual assaults he committed or, if he did, why he wasn't convicted of them all, but his sentence is related to what he was convicted of.

He probably continued to offend even after the police knew about him due to the poor communication, in-fighting and political correctness/paranoia from up high.

Given the volume of additional complaints, it would be interesting to understand the parole board thinking, as I would guess they're not really able to supervise 24/7 once he is out.

8 years for one rape, five sexual assaults, one attempted assault and 12 drugging charges.

I don't know how sentencing guidelines work but that really doesn't seem like a lot.

It’s life with a minimum of 8. For the offences he was found guilty.

But I agree with my perception of your view that release after circa 10 years served is too early. Not that I have particular knowledge of the parole board’s thoughts/advice/pressures/options.

He was given an indefinite sentence with a recommendation that he serve at least 8 years and only be released when the parole board were satisfied that he no longer posed a risk to women.

He's served 10 inc time on remand.

He's now on licence.

Could they have passed on a few cases, that can now be levelled to send him back.
