Lord...where will this end?
Discussion
I have just read the following article in utter dismay. https://news.sky.com/story/painting-of-naked-nymph...
Not only is this one of my favourite British pre-Raphaelite paintings, but it is one of the most beautiful classical paintings by a British painter. Is this PC gone mad? The gallery has said that it has removed the piece so that the conversation about "attitudes to women" can continue.
Questions
1. Do we really think that painted images of female minor deities are images of modern women?
2. In the new debate, is it now the case that women (modern or ancient) cannot be pictorially depicted?
3. Do we really believe that the image of six semi-nude deities, painted in 1896, is going to distort, corrupt, demean the status of a woman in modern day society?
4. Where is the boundary between appropriate censorship and art?
I'm sorry but for me, this crosses a line. I am prepare to tolerate a discussion about "grid girls" (and I see arguments for and against beyond the fact that they are an easy target) but this is too much. Can we please have an adult and mature discussion about diversity without the lunatics running the asylum?
Rant over. Gets coat.

Pretty pathetic PR stunt in an effort to drum up attention, which regrettably has worked.

The decision was taken by gallery staff with artist Sonia Boyce, and the painting's removal during an event on Friday was filmed to be made into a new piece of video art for Boyce's exhibition at the gallery in March.
I wonder in 100 years time will people look back upon this 'video art' with the same fondness? Edited by BugLebowski on Thursday 1st February 16:37

I've got a great big print of that on my bedroom wall.
