Just saw the article in the Sun, I have heard about it previously but seems quite cheap considering it’s £200/nth for private home owners etc...

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5491142/britains-fir...

Not sure how far it will end up going eventually but I have to admit I would happily pay £200mth for a little visibility of a security service around my street

£200 p/m?

How many houses in your street?

It's a 'police force' in the same way the RSPCA is a 'police force'.

Anyone can pay for security guards / private investigators. Anyone can undertake a private prosecution.

This just appears to be the above packaged into a smart business model.

In one form or the other this has been happening for years - for example the Shomrim. It's just a very organised neighbourhood watch scheme.

It seems like a good idea...

Until these “officers” badly hurt or kill a suspected offender and realise the law doesn’t recognise them to have the powers they may think they have.

Regardless though, if I lived in a particularly wealthy part of any big city, I’d still be willing to contribute if it deterred buggers from causing trouble.

Impressive investigation/prosecution/conviction rate. And presumably ones the police gave up on.

Easy to get good results when you've got more 'Officers' than cases. If Police Officers only had one case to deal with, I'm sure they'd get positive results all the time. As it is, they average around 30 at any one time and pick up more every day. I assume they've not got loads of people sat with mental health cases trying to find them a bed or dealing with Waynetta because she style Wayne's phone credit.
They're security guards making themselves sound somewhat better than they are.

The article says 60 investigators (however that's defined) and 400 prosecutions over two years.

3.3 prosecutions per investigator per year.

If only the police were able to have such low productivity! wink

....
That's taken in Golders Green. I remember guy parking outside of Carmeli's (yum), and shomrim bloke telling him to move on. Guy turned around, uttered, 'fkin mall cops, fk off'' and continued to eat his bureka. Carmeli's is of the few things that I miss from the time that I used to live there.

Thinking about it, imagine if this prat, got into a similarly marked car with Arabic text (please someone good with photoshop ...)

This kind of thing?

Why would anything "happen"? You can dayglo your car up to your heart's content - so long as you don't pretend you're police.

You can even put an orange Joey on the roof, just like the AA...

They would have no power to even talk to suspects and as such would be told to fk right off by me.

Do the police dislike people livering up their cars to be similar to cop cars?

Their likes & dislikes are irrelevant- what matters is whether it's legal or not,

Private detectives and security are hardly anything new. Any investigator can look good when they get to choose how they spend their time and what cases they fancy dealing with.
