It is said that Prince Charles, having said initially that Camilla would never receive the title of Queen, is quietly preparing to go back on his word.

Should she be called Queen?

No because Charlie boy has proved himself to be unfit to be King over many, many years.

I'm indifferent to the Royals. But don't get the vitriol towards him specifically.

But he's big on charity, big on his chosen environmental causes. (yes I know, fleet of cars) His biggest mistake seems to be in marrying the sociopathic Diana rather than frumpy/boring Camilla in the first place

I believe under the rules, she's entitled to be called Queen. So she can take the title. I don't imagine she'd be the type to rub peoples face in it though.

Nobody should be called 'Queen'.

The concept of certain people being born 'better' than others is archaic and immoral.

OP, please add another option: redundancy for the royal family after Liz's demise.

I'm with Rich on this. Seems to me that he's made the best of a very odd upbringing and a life in waiting to try to do some good and raise issues that he thinks are important.

That said, I don't think he should be King. Skipping a generation to the young(ish) Will/Kate would revitalise the monarchy in a way that Charles never could.

Not really bovverd innit bruv.

I imagine many people who despise the royals as they form the hate-stoges their weak ideology has to furnish them with, will work themselves into a lather trying to prove some idiotic semantic point.

I hope she does, just to annoy them, and to occupy their little minds enough to keep them away from the grown up discussions

God save camilla! From the post modernists/SJW angry blogs! She's the male patriarchy innit!

Agreed, though I'd feel it a shame for Will/Kate when they're so relatively young. Still, that's not going to happen, it will still be Charles. Personally, I'd rather her not be given the title of Queen.

perhaps the best thing Liz could do is cut a deal with charly boy that if she stands down, he gets 5 years and passes it to willy, as asking him to never take the throne is kind of a big ask, given its the job he's been born to do and waited his whole life for.

As a sociopath, Diana was a rank amateur until she realised she'd been royally (literally) fked over. A quick familiarisation with her in-laws' family history, and she'd learned all she needed to know to rise to their level.

Brenda will never stand down. No monarch ever voluntarily abdicated until Eddy.

She could be called Gerald for all I care.

Interesting tome coming out soon:

We’ll see if he gets sued into oblivion for this, but the bits I have seen in the press (ranging from The Times to The Wail) seem pretty awful.

I think if they're going to do it they may as well crack on with it now, it's not like they are giving quiet lives of anonymity in the meantime.......

I think he's done a decent job of finding other things to do while he's been waiting and I'm not sure he would actually get anything out of being King now anyway.

Much better that he is still able to push the causes that he is interested in and give his son the chance to create the next era of royalty rather than spending a lifetime waiting like Charles has had to.

It's up to the Lady of the Lake, offering Excalibur to the rightful king, surely?

Charlie is a lovely man, Having met him he is very knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects that he cares about. Although not a royalist myself I personally think that having a king and queen is good for our country it bothers me no more than what that daft bint from the voice calls herself this week.

I suspect that we are quite close to the point where Charles is formally appointed Prince Regent and, given the Queen's potential longevity, that would give quite a number of years for the palace to gauge reaction to Camilla as Princess Regent and to see whether, when the time comes, she would be accepted as Queen.

Personally, I think that, in the times in which we live, a Queen consort with a living former husband is probably less jarring than the clumsy and made-up title "Princess Consort". After all, in Spain, the most devoutly Catholic of countries, there hasn't been any issue with the current Queen being a divorcee

She will be Queen, just like she is the Princess of Wales right now. They just don't refer to her as such to keep the forelock tuggers happy.
