This BBC article popped up yesterday (on google news I think): http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/article/fa4340d8-3f9...

Now, I can understand young lads trying to get a porn addiction under control, but to give up the old five finger shuffle long term? Assuming not getting the real deal with a partner, not just a bit of extra curricular. It sounds like self torture to me, and they're trying to make out it has health benefits? Is it not perfectly normal for spotty teenage lads to be prolific wkers! I'm not sure just blaming it on readily available porn is the real cause either, surely that is just an, erm, helping hand? I'm not that old, but I kind of feel for the youth of today - teenage girls presumably still mainly interested in older blokes (because teenage boys are apparently too immature), and now lads are being told that it's bad for them to relieve their tensions manually?

It mentions a Reddit called NoFap, which apparently has 300,000 'fapstronaughts'! Here's a quote from there:

What is a quick orgasm worth?
Is it worth everything to you? A few seconds of intense pleasure, in exchange for a life time of depression, isolation, social awkwardness, and loneliness? This is the path you are heading if you continue this addiction. We're all here for our own reasons, but one thing that ties us together is the desire to become better.

---Next time you get the urge to fap, don't just think about the pleasurable part of it. Thats your brain trying to justify your actions. Think about the entirety of it. The consequences of it. How it left you feeling afterwards. Change starts now! Don't procrasterbate!

Next, they'll be telling people that it makes you go blind! I can only think that it's some kind of oppressive spin off from third wave feminism, and that somehow and man who masturbates is degrading to women? "A man should only use his sexual sexual organs when a woman gives him permission" kind of thing. It feels a bit like these feminists won't be happy until men are all kept in cages and just used as sperm donors! Or maybe it's a tied in with the "men going there own way" movement? Maybe I'm just out of touch, but it seems it's not cool for a man to have a libido any more?

I know PH is full of experts on this subject!

All that happens is that you cum in the night.

wking. Or dirty sheets. It's not like they don't cum. They do. It's just going to be during sleep and fking inconvenient.

The bullst that some people peddle is beyond imagining.

A nation of males without the need for spectacles - I'd say that's a good thing.

A tad late for me though!

I think the problem is that a lot of these guys find they can't actually get it up with real women, when they finally get the chance, because they've conditioned themselves to only get a sexual response from often increasingly bizarre pornography.

So it's an attempt to break that link, or something.

Do you actually believe this is a real problem? Really?

A lot of people here dismissing “nofap” out of hand with absolutely no understanding of the brain chemistry involved. For shy guys lacking confidence with women the effects on confidence, mood and self esteem can be significant. Dopamine is one powerful compound!

I went through the 90 day “reset” 6-7 years ago and it quite literally changed my life for the better. My confidence and success with women was transformed and my general mood elevated significantly. I gave up porn and hardly ever “bash the bishop” nowadays (no real need as I’m in a relationship).

PH may mock the idea but for certain people the effects can be profound.

The affects that porn can have on peoples sex life are well documented.
