Perhaps it's only for the US, but I remember reading the system would only work if the driver has their hands on the wheel?
A lot of these systems require you to touch the steering wheel every X seconds or minutes. But there are videos on YouTube of people getting round this by wedging something like an orange or stress ball into the steering wheel.
On the autonomous braking thread one of the usual suspects answers this by saying software update to have someone sat in the seat.
Point spectacularly missed, if someone is stupid enough to pull a stunt like this, they are sufficiently stupid to sit something like a backpack on the seat to fool the sensors, or even sit in the driver's seat, recline and stick their arms behind their head. Morons.

I seem to remember a case in the States a few years ago when a guy put his motorhome into cruise control, and went into the back to make a cup of drink and of course it crashed.
He successfully sued the manufacturer on the basis that they should have made it clear in the manual that he had to stay at the wheel even when he had put the cruise control on.

Maybe but it was in the days before the internet when I read about it in an article telling all sorts of stories about rather stupid Americans, including the burglars who sued a householder because they broke into his house and garage and managed to lock themselves in their garage all night.
Maybe that's an urban legend as well.
