Woman ignores road closure and drives into Marathon
Discussion
Shocking how rude and ignorant people are these days.
My question is what action with the police take? She waves a blue badge like its a gets out jail free card. With the filming and all of the people running what goes through her mind?

It's not particularly shocking any more. Wasn't there a similar thread recently where a PHer drove around somebody who was blocking off a road for a cycle race?
I remember some grumblings about a cycle race. I ignore these threads as they usually bring out the bonehead types who rant about push bikes not having vehicle excise licence as if it means cars take priority as they pay a pollution-based tax that hasn't directly paid for roads for decades, if you dare to bring up cyclist mean fewer cars they normally spit their dummies out.Until an off-duty police officer stepped I think this lady would have drove on.

I helped Marshall the Manchester marathon.
The behaviour of some people (men and women) driving cars was appalling, some very dangerous/aggressive/selfish and some just clueless.
It was quite eye opening and concerning.
Get to the point that physical barriers such as concrete dividers will be needed. This will push the cost of the events up.The behaviour of some people (men and women) driving cars was appalling, some very dangerous/aggressive/selfish and some just clueless.

Or... don't use the public road to hold running / cycling events I guess. Don't see car drivers driving around the local sports field while people are doing 400m jogs.
(I don't actually believe the above, just felt like being contrarian)
Its about time they let us close roads to hold car races as well, after all roads are for cars aren't they!.(I don't actually believe the above, just felt like being contrarian)
(I know that they have
)Amazing how many peoples ill health is self-inflicted, ie poor diet, overweight, smoking etc bang you have a blue badge.
She may be one of them, never understood these mobility people in the lease cars smoking like chimneys as its to aid their mobility and it's not their car.
My other half is training to be a midwife and they struggle to get good scans on some ladies due to the fat getting in the way. Its gone full circle now as lots of 40 plus ladies having babies later in life and all the health issues that come with that as women aren't designed to have babies that late in life.
Still gets the teen mums but very little 20-30s mums apparently.
They had a avery healthy trim lady in the other day and more experienced sonographer explained the baby was normal to the newly qualified lady scanning who was concerend had not seen such detail as used to ladies with more body fat.

Inconsiderate? Yes. Worthy of front page news, probably not. The marshal would have done better to stop the runners once it was clear she was driving across the flow of people. It would have only taken a few seconds. Was the road actually closed?
Try driving through the London marathon next year. Let us know how you get on.My mum was doing a 10k race yesterday locally, and part of the course ran around a couple of local roads whilst the rest was at the rugby club. To accommodate this, they made a simple one-way system on the roads so the runners had half the road, the drivers had the other half. The detour to accommodate this is, according to my Fitbit, 700 metres extra for the drivers, to go to the next junction and turn left left and rejoin the main road. Two sides of a triangle rather than just the one side type of thing.
Wow, I could not believe how difficult this was for people and how upset they were that they had to take a detour. There were diversion signs up and a few marshals but where I was stood to watch mum was on the junction and people ignoring the one-way sign were incredibly irate about this minor detour
So sadly, this woman in the OP is of no surprise to anyone really, which is a shame

From a cursory nose at Gmaps there appears to be no other way out of there.
Let's just say we don't know what provision the council made for access around the route, and we don't know how far they went with communication and signage ahead of the event. We don't know If the woman was from out of town and therefore might have missed any advance warnings given.
No excusing driving onto the course, and doesn't change the fact that's behaved like a stupid selfish moron, like most people you see out and about these days on the roads and everywhere else.
But, council might have to share some of the blame as well if they've put in place road closures without proper planning or warnings.

Go marshal (or just watch) a half marathon and then you'll realise how little energy some runners have left to do anything other than run. Ok, so the ones behind her are stopped, what about the ones shes driving up behind now that she's turned onto the road?Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
