Looks like the pier over the river has collapsed. Given the heavy rains that were apparently happening I wonder if there has been a scour issue.

The next issue of the ICE comic will make good reading following the latest summary about that collapse in the States.

Wonder what the foundation design was for the pier.

According to the BBC radio news, the bridge was originally built in the 1960s but underwent major maintenance and upgrading two years ago.

Seems to be a tower section of the bridge rather than the viaduct roadway section
