Lab grown meat...

Seems that the future isn't insects, it's lab grown meat. No harm to real animals...

I'm not going to mince words,
Once they've got the bugs worked out it'll be cheaper and better than farmed meat, more consistent, faster and more efficient to produce, higher quality and well, lack of genetic diversity in cattle herds can be a bit of a problem. It'll take years though, so don't think about carving up that farmland for apartments just yet.
But it'll happen, I'll steak my reputation on it.

Show me the numbers then we can talk turkey.https://news.sky.com/story/lab-grown-meat-is-the-f...
They converted an abandoned council tower block in East London once before, putting the cheaper meats on the first few floors and going up in grade on the upper floors.
investors pulled out in the end, the steaks were too high.
they also discovered 8 legs of venison was two dear.

I think that this will happen and killing animals for food will be seen as barbaric by more than the few Vegetarians that dont eat meat on ethical grounds.
I do however worry about the Vegans, or well, some of them, those who tell you about their dietary preferences within a minute of meeting you, they do exist, as well as those folk you work with for ages and you werent aware.
they will have to get something new to tell you.

Currently costs around £250,000 per burger I believe... so slightly cheaper than a family meal at Pizza Express if you don't have any vouchers...
I don’t think anyone has ever eaten at Pizza Express without a voucher! The one thing I don’t see mentioned in that article that is perhaps the most important is what it will do for the requirements of water for the production of the meat. That is where the real issue will be in the future.
I am all for anything that helps the environment but to be honest I would rather not eat meat than eat something made in a lab. Eating real meat is something I don't take lightly and I always make sure that whatever is cooked is delicious and worthy of that animal dying. Also, for me a lot of the pleasure of eating meat is knowing where it comes from, or what it has eaten and this is often reflected in the taste.
I don't think I would have the same emotional investment in lab grown meat. Maybe it is a bizarre way of looking at it but I can't get excited about a steak made in a lab.
The best option, I think, is to reduce your meat consumption to eating quality pieces. I also avoid fish from fish farms because they are horrendous from the environment, and I eat seasonal produce because it tastes better, the travelling impact on the environment is lower, and it is half the price of stuff shipped in from abroad. I also think that by growing meat in a lab you are further removing people from the reality of what they are eating even more than they already are, and this cannot be good for improving the nutrition and diet of our increasingly rotund population.

I'm pretty sure that the cultivated cells require fetal calf serum (FCS). Every primary cell I've ever grown needed a growth medium containing fetal calf serum. There are growth media for certain cell lines that don't contain bovine serum, but I'll be amazed if these cells are able to grow without it.
The percentage for most growth media is between 5 and 20% FCS. If we say 10% FCS then an industrial scale grow requiring 10,000 litres of growth media would require a thousand litres of FCS, that's a lot of cow fetuses.....
If they don't use FCS then my point is completely redundant

Technically brilliant, I'm sure, but it's a pretty poor attempt at a pun.The percentage for most growth media is between 5 and 20% FCS. If we say 10% FCS then an industrial scale grow requiring 10,000 litres of growth media would require a thousand litres of FCS, that's a lot of cow fetuses.....
