Yet more terrible news for Indonesia. 737 missing after 13 minutes flight time with 188 on board. Debris found floating in the sea.

That is sad news, i would usually hope there are survivors but it appears to have dropped out the sky quite violently so little chance of that. 189 people onboard, RIP

Oh no.

Reading that news report it seems Indonesian airlines are a joke. Even managing to hit each other. Awful.

So the aircraft was new and the latest model too.

Lost contact at 7 minutes in, with such a new a/c (08/18? EIS) i can’t see it being a structural issue; perhaps changes between variants have led to pilot error?

Being based in Indo’ I would guess safe water based landings are a major part of the pilots training? being so soon after take off I wouldn’t have thought they’d have the altitude / air speed for the fuselage to disintegrate on impact!

11k hours between the pilots so hardly beginners, I hope there are survivors but it isn’t looking good as they have started to find debris / belongings.

Brand new aircraft hits the water at high speed not long after TO, very strange indeed.

According to prune the same plane reported air speed problems on the previous flight.

This flight reported air speed issues and requested return landing

Missing flight top. More typical flight bottom

Plane loses reliable airspeed or attitude information in nighttime conditions with no visible horizon.

It's happened before.

From what I read the weather was good and the sun was just coming up so probably not daylight but some light.

I saw the time as 11.30 pm but that may have been UTC rather than local.

There are a number of physiological factors that can lead to such events...and have in the past.

Appalling.

I smell litigation.

375 mph.

Was it level or diving? It sounds like it might have been in a flat attitude with that speed. If coming down nose first it would be closer to 600 mph I would guess.

On such a modern aircraft I just cant see how CFIT can happen. They have HUD on the 737 these days right?
