I can’t stand his whinging and whining at the best of times but this just takes the biscuit.

BBC Radio 2's Drivetime show should be renamed because it celebrates "a form of transport that kills 1,700 people a year", presenter Jeremy Vine has said.

The That Is Jeremy Vine.

The reason I don`t listen to R2 on weekdays between 12 & 2pm.

Quite hard to believe this is the brother of the utterly brilliant Tim Vine.

I think they should drop the name because it's just pointless and outdated. Just one of those things that people keep on doing/saying because that's what they've always done. It's a silly as "mansize" tissues.

When we become "post-car Britain" I will agree.

So not in my lifetime then.

Worst thing about this is that someone has wasted some time, no matter how small, writing that article.

His radio and TV shows are based on saying something contentious - and getting people to phone in to debate either side of the argument.

He doesn't believe it - he just needs people to phone in.

Can't say it bothers me but when you think about it there are a lot of people who don't drive but commute.

True, but what's the probability that a radio show broadcast during commute-time is being listened to by people driving their own vehicles, vs the probability of it being listened to by commuters using any other form of transport?

Perhaps he should change his name, because you know drunk drivers.

I think a recent ofcom report had the car as the most popular 'method' to listen to radio, dont have a link to hand though

I'd guess it's pretty high just, but the replies on this thread are beyond parody over such an innocuous thing.

He makes a suggestion and he's a ""? Really? confused

Ken Bruce is the only Radio 2 show worth listening to, nowadays.

Haven't listened to Radio 2 in about a decade. Last time I caught Drivetime by accident, it shocked me how it just hadn't changed at all in that time.

What a prick.

I especially like the idea that cars are killing people in a post-car world. Like cars are coming back from the dead to do it - life must be like a horror movie for him.
