14 year-old ned riding a moped (i.e.stolen scooter) crashes into flash car, flash car guys get out and stab him dead.

How very PistonHeads...

Cue howling, bleating, wringing of hands etc.

As horrible as it is, this was always going to happen the scooter crime in the city is out of control and the police powerless to do anything.

It's OTT but hopefully it'll send a message the scrotes!

Punishment does not fit the crime. If that makes sense
Yes something needs to be done about stolen bikes, muggings and so forth in relation to stolen bikes but what a waste of a life.

in reality:

14 year old drug runner is seen by dealers in a flash car riding his stolen uninsured moped on a drug distribution run in an area where he should not be. Car occupiers knock him off to break the distribution channel and stab him to death for his trouble.

Society is a little better for it but unfortunately another will shortly come along to take his place...

Indeed. Stereotypes exist for a reason.

I notice the article has been updated now that they've had a chance to interview local residents etc - now implications about gang involvement, carrying knives etc.

Hardly a surprise from the sounds, but still a shame that people fall into this kind of situation.

If any of the PH assumptions are true, then good riddance. & yes, I will come over as a heartless bd, but I mean it.

They do. Part of the problem is that in the absence of easily accessible data regarding crime in London (not just knife crime), people tend to jump to conclusions, and stereotyping is as a result of this.

I note the BBC have posted a piece detailing the victims of the 132 homicides in London in 2018 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46128268 - It's pretty comprehensive, giving names, locations, dates and other facts. The only data that seems to be missing is that of the perpetrators. This is why assumptions are made.

In fact - Here's an assumption of mine... The PC folk at the been don't want to make the data easily accessible for fear of being labelled racist.

That's exactly the assumptions I would've made too.

The biggest being that PH members would agree that a B Class Merc is a flash car.

Er, have you tried clickin on any of the victims? Several of them do give the names of the perpetrators. Or mention that they're youths so can't be named for legal reasons..

In fairness at 14 I have some sympathy ...... thats a young life, and an age where its easy to make mistakes, if he were a more hardened 17-18 year old with real history then I'd be far less sympathetic but I suspect this is some kid that although not innocent has probably been led ....
