Tanya O'Connell, who lives in Twickenham, said the problem delayed her taking medication while she recovered at home following an operation last week.

The 37-year-old bank manager said her surgeon told her to take soluble pain relief, which she was meant to take at 08:00.

She said Thames Water "promised they would send someone with emergency stuff" but she had to eventually send her mother to the shop to buy water.

"It was difficult for her, she's in her 60s with a bad leg... taking litres of water up the stairs," Ms O'Connell said.

If we ever get a pandemic or nuclear holocaust, these people won't last very long...

Where are you getting "no water for 10 minutes" from in the article you've linked?

I mean even the article says: Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said it was "unacceptable" that so many people had been left without water "for several hours with little or no information on when supplies will be restored".

Indeed. Sounds rather more problematic than that doesn't it what with school closures, hospitals cancelling appointments for procedures etc.

The "I couldn't take my tablets" and "My baby couldn't have a bath" stories do seem rather pathetic though. smile

If a business, school, et al. do not know how long the water would be out for they are obligated to send people home for the simple reason that sanitary facilities are not available (erm... the loos).

But on PH it's popular to bash London because they're miserable sods who's heads would implode if they encountered anything more exciting than a teaspoon.

Hyperbole, mainly.

Loads of people are affected, obviously. Most don't go to the press for a big old whinge.

You're right, most don't, but two or three have, out of how many thousands affected?

It's yummy mummy central around here, you're bound to get a few.

Not great form but not end of days either. The article in the local rag is quite funny too, Sainsbury's looks like its been sacked.

The main reason that we won the war was because during World War 2, I was around and Ms O'Connell wasn't.

If you were so dependent on having water to the degree the women in the article claim wouldn’t you have a few bottles stashed in the house somewhere for emergencies?

We run out of water for a few days every so often (lack of rain spring / summer, frozen lochs winter)... NW Scottish Highlands.

We manage to survive. (Not on mains water obvs).
