Scarecrow police officer slows speeding drivers in Lydiate

A woman has made a scarecrow-style police officer carrying a speed camera after becoming angry at drivers ignoring the speed limit on her street.

"A spokesman for Merseyside Police said the scarecrow was not unlawful and the force had no issue with it "if it helps slow motorists down"."

I thought they weren't allowed as they "distracted the driver" the same as putting fake speed cameras on the side of your house. Or notifying drivers of speed traps further ahead.

The stretch of road reported as a street is a 40 in a semi rural area. It’s the A5147.

Every time some local village on anything approximating a main road has a scarecrow competition, some misery makes a policeman with a fake speed gun.

This is ludicrous, impersonating an office is an offence so if I dressed up an stood there with a pretend gun I'd expect to be prosecuted. However erect a pretend copper in your garden in clear view of a main road intentionally made to distract/confuse drivers and its perfectly legal.

Strange then that there are cases where the police and councils have demanded people remove fake speed cameras from their property so how is this scarecrow crap allowed. Where is the consistency?!

A fake speed camera is a council planning issue (not a police issue) and a scarecrow, is, well, a scarecrow.
