Glyndwr Wyn Richards, from Llanfarian in Ceredigion, was convicted of using a motor vehicle in a condition likely to cause injury at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
Richards, 51, was seen driving the car through Aberystwyth to a scrap yard on the Glan yr Afon Industrial Estate in March.
He was fined £80 and told to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85 after pleading guilty to the offence."It's a shame the roof of the car didn't fold in when they put it on there... What an unbelievable plum.

I think it was closer to a bodyshell than a complete car. I would have expected the engine to have more effect on the stability than seemed to be the case in the video. No power train makes it easier to get on and off the roof too! Not good for the roof paintwork though.
He got to his destination without being pulled over so who blabbed?

If it was securely strapped and not overweight what has he done wrong?
From another article:"A Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) inspector who watched the footage, said that even with a strap in place, the load was not safe as the top car wasn’t secured in all directions."
The mind boggles these days at the stupidity of more and more people.
Wonder how he managed to get the Skoda on the VW's roof? (a Skoda that looks in similar nick to the VW - other than his VW now must have a badly dented and scratched roof - note n/s door mirror hanging too!
)
Imagine had that Skoda come off the roof in traffic? Yet all he receives is a meagre fine and 3 penalty pts!
'No way was it coming off my roof' he said...
Oh yeah, a car roof is made to hold almost 1.4 tons is it?
Christ, no wonder that new car insurance ad says '...when you're driving, we never know what's around the corner!'
Oh, I should add that the new ad has received lots of complaints (one from 'Brake', of course).

Did any of the complaints relate to the fact the BMW had an airbag which I doubt it did? dandarez said:

The version of the story I read basically said that the trip was from one side of an industrial estate to a scrapyard at the other, the car was lifted on with a forklift & they tested pushing & pulling it with the forklift once it was secured and he also had an escort van behind him - that's probably why it was only 3 points and a small fine. But why not just take it all the way on the forklift? Has to be more to it than that, also surely the scrap guys would have collected if from a few hundred yards off? poo at Paul's said:
