Baby thrown off bridge -
Discussion
These days it takes quite a lot to shock me - but how horrific for the poor babies mother and anyone else around the area at the time. I imagine the ‘dad’ will have a very hard time in prison - hopefully.

Not too far from where I am. Radcliffe has had a poor reputation locally with a major homeless and drug using population. Sadly the mother appears to be getting victimised on social media with many people pointing fingers at her involvement in the incident.
I just hope those affected get peace, those who caused it are punished.
SD.

The whole thing is so tragic. Poor little boy.
“ A man who threw his 11-month-old son into a river in Manchester has been found guilty of manslaughter by diminished responsibility.
Zakari Bennett-Eko died after being pulled from the River Irwell in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, by the emergency services at 5.15pm on 11 September last year.
His father, 23-year-old Zak Bennett-Eko, was spotted throwing his son into the river before he walked to a nearby pub, where he was later arrested.
Bennett-Eko, who was too unwell to attend the trial, was said to be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and believed his child was turning into the devil, a six-day Nightingale Court trial sitting at the Lowry Theatre heard.”

The judge says this guy slipped through the mental health net. From experience, I can say that most are slipping through, it’s not uncommon for someone to visit a+e several times and still not get assistance, often with family members begging for them to get help or even sectioned.
I’m surprised more things like this don’t happen.

It sounds like you have a connection to these things - it must be so hard. I don’t agree with the sentence personally - a baby was killed, it’s not manslaughter when you throw an innocent life off a bridge knowing they can’t swim - that’s murder. I’m surprised more things like this don’t happen.

Even when he is/was demonstrably mentally unwell? Sorry, if he is that unhinged, he is a threat to society and should be isolated for everyone else’s safety just like a sane person who had committed such an act.
It is not about him any more after what was clearly a murder, whether that was due to his illness or not.
