Royal Shakespeare Stops Support From BP
Discussion
The Royal Shakespeare Company has decided not to accept any more money from oil giant BP because it alleges something or the other....

This is madness!
Why were BP giving them money in the first place - and not just RSC, the whole of the opera, ballet, theatre world gets generous subsidies from government, commerce and industry. Why?
Why? Why should I pay extra on my fuel so that someone can get a reduced price seat in a theatre. They don't subsidise anything that I do, why should I subsidise what they do.
These activities should stand on their own feet, or fail. That's the way the world works. Let the Devil take the hindmost.

"Young people are now saying clearly to us that the BP sponsorship is putting a barrier between them and their wish to engage with the RSC," it said.
BP has subsidised the Stratford-upon-Avon-based theatre company's £5 ticket scheme for 16 to 25-year-olds.
Can't they just pay full price as a protest? I'm sure that they'll not get 10k kids a year through, that BP was subsidising.BP has subsidised the Stratford-upon-Avon-based theatre company's £5 ticket scheme for 16 to 25-year-olds.

This is the greatest indicator of inequality. Those bemoaning inequality choosing to pay the premium for the morally superior, full virtue, guilt free ticket or product. Unassuming they put their money where their mouth is.
They should be the one subsidising the cheaper tickets. The sort of idiots who talk about those on minimum wage and capitalism but get Delieroo from an illegal worker on a moped because they can't be bothered to get to a restaurant and are too good for their local takeaway. Tax these excesses not earnings.

How do you feel about the Red Bull Air Race, or the Renault F1 team?
In the examples of the Red bull air race or Renault F1, it is obvious who the sponsor is. I do not give money to Red Bull, or Renault.I hadn't realised that BP were giving money from my fuel payment to the RSC. But, it has now stopped.
If I know who is giving money, or support to whom, them I have the option of not supporting that company or organisation
You refer to football clubs, that is simply a form of advertising. No?

As a BP shareholder, I would support not paying the RSC money and as a result they can increase the dividend a scratch.
I’ve never met anyone who applies more criteria than “price” and “location” to buying fuel.
Really? Find any thread on here talking about high octane fuel and you will find someone claiming they only ever fill their car with Shell V Power or w/e. I’ve never met anyone who applies more criteria than “price” and “location” to buying fuel.

Maybe they did it because, you know, someone at BP thought it would be a nice idea. Maybe show that these industry giants aren't all evil. Maybe someone at BP enjoys Shakespeare and couldn't afford to go when they were young. Thought, hell, I missed out, why not give someone else who is young a chance now I have the means to do it.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-4990...

Or maybe BP just thought it would be good for the brand, even though they are probably an 'evil' oil giant.
Whatever the reasoning, the muppet students have shot themselves in the foot here. Do they really think that BP will change based on them not allowing them to give their money away?
Classic hypocritical climate change nancy action. Probably complained about BP on their Apple phone that was assembled by a poor kid in China, whilst munching on a 'smashed' avocado that was shipped half way around the world last week. w

kers.It might just be go old philanthropist behaviour. Sadly it's seen less and less because of big government and this idea that the government can far better spend your money and should be the ones who decide where your money goes. So people think I've paid my tax I've done my bit I will keep the rest thanks. There is no real person investment a feeling that your money is going to something good.
