Women lose case over pension age changes
Discussion

Campaigners have lost a significant legal battle against the government's handling of the rise in women's state pension age.
The retirement age for women rose from 60 to 65, in line with men, and will go up to 66 by 2020, and to 67 by 2028.
Women born in the 1950s claim the rise is unfair because they were not given enough time to make adjustments to cope with years without a state pension.
They argued the changes were discrimination, but judges disagreed.
In a summary of the court's decision, the judges said: "There was no direct discrimination on grounds of sex, because this legislation does not treat women less favourably than men in law.
"Rather it equalises a historic asymmetry between men and women and thereby corrects historic direct discrimination against men."

'Equality' when it suits.

It.s not that they changed it. Its that they should have given at least 10 years notice so affected women could make other pension arrangements and NI contributions adjusted accordingly, NI was paid them for around 40 years yet they have lost the six years pension for which the contributions were calculated.

What I thought as well. This dates back some years, not a recent thing.audidoody said:

AgreedThere is something badly wrong with UK law
Many women have not been given a chance, too late for them to allow for the changes

Nobody appears to have taken anything from them. They work. They get to retirement age. Then they get the state pension. What am I missing?

The Pension Act 1995 changed the state pension age for women from 60 to 65 with effect from 2010 (i.e. transition started in 2010 gradually increasing to equalise the retirement age in March 2019).

So 15 years notice then......The Major Government had to pass legislation to equalise the pension age as the European Court of Human Rights ruled the higher age for men to be discriminatory.

Exactly. Even if people think the change was done in a fair manner I'm not convinced that all people are even trying to understand what the challenge was about.
So...what is it about? Having read the news stories. It appears to be. "Our generation promised ourselves things we couldn't afford as it turned out in the end. As a result the pension age had to rise 15 years after they said it would. But rather than find an income until I hit the new retirement age, I've decided to form a pressure group to say it's not fair and demand that the following generations (who are generally worse off financially because of my generations bad planning, and who will retire when older if at all) should pay for me to retire as planned (at the unviable age)."
