Rock and Roll Part 2...
Discussion
Couldn't find a thread on this but looks like Gary Glitter is getting some airtime as Rock and Roll Part 2 appears in the new Joker film.
https://www.theguardian.com/music/shortcuts/2019/o...
Not seen the film yet but saw a clip and it sort of fits the tone that I believe the film is aiming for and the background makes it all the darker if aware of its origin, just listened to it on Spotify (though expect I have now just joined a list somewhere) but hate to admit it, despite him being a reprehensible pervert, its a pretty compelling tune.
I will stick the the Timelords version "Doctorin the Tardis" as imagine knocking your headphones off/out/disconnecting and blasting out a bit of Gary Glitter
Would feel like that bloke from Pheonix nights.
So, Uncle Gazzer could be in for a paedo payday, may be some legal reasons as to why not but pretty possible there will be a few more downloads and a new generation humming Rock and Roll part 2.
It is weird how someone back catalogue just evaporates when they get convicted, same with the Lost Prophets but Michael Jackson is still up for debate, too big ? not convicted ?
Did they pick this because it was suitable, or to generate publicity ?
Mods, any chance you can correct my spelling mistake in the title please ?

One of Glitter's tunes is played regularly at ice hockey or baseball maybe games, which is a source of revenue for him.
His criminality is not a big deal in the USA .
It's the same song that's in the Joker, I agree with the above, if he'd been an American the publicity of him would have been more well known, and his songs probably wouldn't have been used. I went to America for a sporting tournament last year and I'm sure it was in the playlist they played in between games. His criminality is not a big deal in the USA .
Wasn't this actually done by his band, The Glitter Band and not by him?

If so, no problem.

I'm a bit perplexed at all this outrage and people going mad about this and the royalty money.
The bloke is a convicted kiddie fiddler - the penalty for his crimes is his incarceration and any subsequent surveillance, reporting etc.
A good tune is a good tune, and if people are playing it or using it then he is entitled to be paid for it if it's not against the law.

I was in Berlin watching the Eisbären when I heard “Leader of the Gang” during a break in play. Surrounded by a few Germans chanting the song, I felt quite uncomfortable

It was used in Meet the Parents https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flqu8TAROss
There wasnt the moral panic there is now about starving criminals for the rest of their lives.

And it definitely is a good tune. The bloke is a convicted kiddie fiddler - the penalty for his crimes is his incarceration and any subsequent surveillance, reporting etc.

They did record it on their own but it was written by Glitter and Leander. The Glitter band only played on tour as backing for Glitter as in the studio Leander played all the instruments for the backing tracks. I grew up listening to Glitter, the sweet, Slade and others before punk came along so the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USWsxluQ9ns

that's effectively a copy version of the original probably done some time ago. If that's the actual one used in the film that may be less controversial - yea right https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USWsxluQ9ns

the original is Rock n Roll part 2 and was the A or B side of err rock n roll part one
It was simply massive and an instant classic
The follow up I didn't know I loved you till I saw you rock n roll was a defining tune for me
His removal from the xmas compilation albums is well documented
Thing is its how and if you choose to separate the man from his music. Personally I think he had some belting tunes
I think you can separate an artist's work from other things they've done. What if someone told you that a road in your town was built by a pedo, would you not drive on it? It's just the Guardian being the Guardian IMO.
I did think it fit very well with the whole tone of the film. The film was trying hard to make you feel uncomfortable. It was probably a very calculated choice!

It was the backing music for Rock & Roll Part 1 without the lyrics. It IS chiefly THe Glitter Band but Gary does make the odd noise on Part 2.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USWsxluQ9ns

But it's credited to him as performer with him and Mike Leander with writing credits.
