Can't quite believe this one, but Spongebob Squarepants has been accused as voilent and racist.

"SpongeBob's presence on Bikini Bottom continues the violent and racist expulsion of indigenous peoples from their lands (and in this case their cosmos) that enables US hegemonic powers to extend their military and colonial interests in the postwar era".

Quite right too. I would go further and say he panders to outdated negative stereotypes about anthropomorphic sponges and is derogatory about those who live in underwater pineapples.

I still love the fact that the Texan squirrel who lives in the air dome is called Sandy Cheeks.

Query if the paper is a spoof, designed to expose the absurdities of some sections of academia. See the Sokal Affair, and the similar spoofs perpetrated with serious purpose by a trio of serious academics last year (or earlier this year, I cannot recall which) by publishing deliberate nonsense papers in various dodgy journals. Gendered approaches to glacier studies was one of the blags, IIRC.

EDIT: "Sokal Squared" was in 2017/18 -

Hardly seems worth all the fuss.

who cares?
imagine going through educcation, only to write a rant about spongebob. clearly made to try and gain awareness of whatever work they do.

i also wonder how old the writer is..have they seen ren & stimpy? that was made by the same people who did spongebob.
