Is it just me that finds this a bit odd, surely it’s not that easy to cross a border from Canada to the US?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-5005046...

I can’t see anywhere on google maps you could just accidentally cross into the US.

Something smells, and probably not the alleged dead animal they were allegedly trying to avoid.

There's a town where the border runs right through it, along the centre of the road. You literally cross it to go to the shop on the other side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EocJm3Dry4E

If it didn't happen there then it didn't happen as described imo.

There was a programme on the BBC about the Americas at the weekend and in places you can just step over into America from Canada, there is no fence or even a sign as far as the camera showed. I can’t see why they have flown them to Pennsylvania, why not just return them to Canada?

It doesn’t take a genius to realise that you’ve fked up if you cross that central reservation. I’m loathed to believe that if they’d just driven across that, and were stopped immediately after that any police officer (even an American one) would arrest them.

Smells more like to me that they’ve crossed on purpose and been caught. Would love to know where they were stopped!

Land of the free... Law enforcement and particularly immigration in the US aren't known for their benevolent nature and common sense.

OTOH it does demonstrate that US immigration aren't racist (assuming the couple are white...) as they're aholes to everyone .

I've never had to swerve for an animal so much so that I end up on an entirely different road.

Which I then proceed down instead of stopping and rejoining my original route.

Seems an odd tale.

Speculation I know but am guessing they fancied a trip into the US after a bit of time in Canada but had no ESTA, possibly due to one or more the party being denied one.

Turns out there were seven in the car as they were travelling with another family of four one of whom was a cousin to the one of the couple named in the article.

Certainly not the friendliest in that area - I flew into Vancouver once, then attempted to drive down to Bellingham, Washington State, to visit a client. Got turned back by US immigration at the Peace Arch border crossing, who insisted I needed a visa to enter their country. This was despite me having a visa waiver completed (this was prior to the online Esta process). Ended up spending a night in the Holiday Inn just down the road while our parent company's lawyer in Atlanta explained the process to them in fairly blunt terms.

While i was there, I saw every vehicle driven by non-whites directed for a full search, while those driven by white Americans were waved through with barely a glance.
Also saw a group of British tourists being refused entry - they were staying in Vancouver and had left their return flight tickets in the hotel safe, so immigration decided they couldn't come in.

Next 2 visits to the client were much easier - flew to Seattle then drove 150+ miles up the coast each time.

I saw this. The man in the US was talking to the present stood at the edge of his property in Canada. The guy said that he had to call border patrol to go and cut certain parts of his lawn. Also advised the presenter not to step over as the US are quite keen at protecting their border even on a small level like this guys garden.

I read / saw an article about a library that is built across the Canadian / US border. It's quite famous as a meeting place among the Middle East students studying in the US that cannot get their families a visa to visit. The families fly to far more liberal Canada and meet their offspring / family in this library. The US have long wanted it closed down but Canada has stood firm.

Anyway as per the BBC article there is something fishy, as someone else said I've never swerved for an animal and found myself in a different country, if that is the best they could come up with they probably deserve some jail time

So what happened to everyone else in the car? Did they return to Canada (presumably being Canadian?).

Something is missing from this story.
