So sad that these creatures are treated in such an appalling manner worldwide, they are more intelligent than dogs. Horrific.

It's how they see their citizens.

Is this really any worse than what pigs go through in pig factory farming and/or abattoirs in the West? And I don't say this as some militant vegan - I eat pork.

Sure it's cruel but I don't think it's any more or less cruel than what we do to pigs here.

See now I have a paradox; normally I must absolutely endorse anything that PETA oppose.

Seems a bit excessive to be honest.

Are they using their panda cars?

In the western world for many years we have used animals to test new drugs and cosmetics etc. Some animals are deliberately infected with diseases or genetically engineered to have certain medical ailments so that we can test the effectiveness of the medication being developed. In terms of pain and suffering the animal undergoes I don't think what we do to them is more or less cruel than what the Chinese are doing here with the pigs.

With the value of human life in China being nearly worthless I'm surprised they don't use convicted criminals .

You should look up animal testing in the UK. It is very heavily regulated but still happens at volume.

In the UK, around 3,000 monkeys are used annually.

True.
China is really bad indeed for animal cruelty - a lot of it is truly sickening and totally unnecessary - but the mid set over there with many of them is that saving a couple of Yuan is much more important than the welfare of any animal. They also have the notion that animals are on the earth purely to serve human needs.
(opinion formed by knowing my brother's chinese wife and their family and circle of friends of who many are still resident in china - we had such a discussion about animal welfare strangely enough when some of them visited during summer - I've also been over to china on a few occasions to have also seen their live animal restaurants and street markets!)

They do however seem to eat every last bit of the animal.

They do indeed.
Something we could learn from here in the west - with our level of wastage.

Cut waste and cruelty - really should not be difficult in this day and age.
