Russia Destabiling the West? (have you changed your mind?)
Discussion
Unless I'm mistaken (which wouldn't be the first time!) it seems to me that Russia interfered with the US presidential elections and the Brexit referendum.
I don't think it's news that Russia has a strategy to undermine the West by causing civil unrest, so if they are responsible for giving us Trump and Brexit, does that make any supporters have 2nd thoughts?
In the spirit of disclosure, I voted to leave but am now unsure whether or not I played as a Useful Idiot

Your own rationale is between you and your conscious. You have to ask what's in it for Russia?
I don't exist in Facebook or Twitter space, I've never received an email on my Gmail account persuading me to vote for anything.
I watch a lot of Youtube vids from both sides of every argument, especially political and climate related.
I don't buy or read any newspapers, except The Telegraph which I am force fed from my parents on a Sunday.
On TV, when I have time I'll watch 10 - 15 mins news from the BBC & SKY, then a quick flick over to RT/France 24/Aljezeera to get the real stories.
I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that no one has a clue what to do.

It's subtle, this advertising malarky. A specific word or colour can influence you, without you being aware as well. There's a science to advertising. It's all very clever.
I used to 'be in advertising' and had lectures of the influence of promotions, yet I, and the rest of the class, and the rest of the world, can still be pushed one way or the other by sophisticated marketing.
However, the person most likely to be influenced is the one who is too [put your word in here] to have their opinions molded.
In the matter of, say, marketing via email or on websites, the returns give a cascade of data that provide information that can be used to modify and improve the returns. Following the changes, there will be more data, and so on, ad infinitum. Russia, and all the other countries, would not involve themselves in influencer strategies unless they got provable returns from it. They hone in on individuals like me and you.
It works. It works on them, it works on me, and it works on you. It works on those whose job is influencer advertising. It's insidious.
Even if you accept it and take steps to ensure you are your own man, the returns will show this and they'll modify the way they influence to capture you to.
It's like the question: Have you stopped beating your wife.

Are you on the sauce Derek or has your account been compromised? None of that makes sense in terms of what you usually post.
I'm not sure what has confused you. I know a bit about advertising and influencing. It used to be my job, way back. You don't, it appears from your recent post, that you don't think you are being influenced in any way. Is this so?

I'm happy to admit campaign's and personalities influence me in plenty of things. It's difficult to be completely sure, particularly on a huge and complex unknown.
That's one of the problems with it; we don't know the full impact of advertising. Everyone knows that having a decal on the side of an F1 car will not make you buy anything. Yet these companies pay £000s per annum on such matters. Not only that, if they couldn't prove it works, they'd have to stop it.
