Perhaps they're arguing the case for the homes. abzmike said:
Perhaps they’re objecting to the type or density of homes, the proposed designs, preparations for school provision etc.
But NIMBYs tend to look the same, whatever thier political persuasion.
The green belt is their objection, yet the people complaining are the same ones that complain their children can't get homes in the area. But NIMBYs tend to look the same, whatever thier political persuasion.

There's currently people kicking off near where I live because they want to build about 3,000 new homes, 2 schools, a GP surgery, and shops on about half a dozen empty farmers fields, that are surrounded by 3 of the busiest dual carriageways in this area, it's madness, pretty sure one of the people objecting was quoted in the paper saying "nobody wants new schools or a GP."
On the plans it looks like they're planning to plant at least 1,000 trees as well, but all the whoppers on Facebook are going on about disappearing "greenbelt", yet there'd be more trees planted than are currently in that area.
More worried about the price of their houses dropping when a substantial number of new houses go on the market more like.
