Last month a British tourist in Australia lost a foot in a shark attack - luckily he lived to tell the tale.

In most places I’d agree with you, but not in La Reunion. It has become a rather bizarre shark attack black spot over the past 10 years, to the extent that it’s messing badly with the tourism industry. Very few people die from shark attacks annually, around 10 worst case. Over 100 are killed by deer.....
