It wont get half the coverage because It it's a bog standard fire, not a whole tower block engulfed in flames.

True accurate assessment.

Says someone who can't even interpret a picture or video of a bloody big block of flats on fire rolleyes

At least the students were more savvy than following the old "stay put" rolleyes advice.

Maybe they needed JRM's advice.

Good to see a newish looking building meeting the 1hr fire rule ? scratchchin

It looks clad, and the eye witnesses so far suggest the cladding burned in a similar way to Grenfell.

Great that no one hurt it seems, but it will be interesting to see if that was luck and this was infact a situation that could have had a much worse outcome.

Have all such buildings been reassessed since Grenfell, and time based corrective action mandated?

Simply awful, does anyone know the racial profile of the students and has JRM apologised yet?

I'm sure a Labour peer will be along soon to tell us the fire fighters would have tried harder if it was white people.

Mogg will surely suggest common sense would have stopped you studying in such a northern place.

Don't know about all buildings, but this was given a post-grenfell check:

Hmm. Not the exact same cladding, but subject to similar traits?

Too early to speculate, could be another unrelated weakness in design - a residential building should not be able to be consumed like that though.

Were the post Grenfell checks too narrrow in scope?

Has flammable cladding been banned and where applicable post installation it has been removed universally? I recall some being taken down just after.

I wonder if it's taken hold in the hob extractor ducting, a pretty weak point and a route to the exterior, where cladding could be ignited?
Anyone saying it's not bad needs to see what's left of the building. They're lucky for many reasons.
They got the hell out.
The building is only of a certain height and rescue was possible for some via lifting platforms.
The fire services did a good job.

Some of this likely benefitted from focus on and learnings from the Grenfell tragedy.

Clear picture here.

https://news.sky.com/story/fire-at-bolton-student-...

What were the walls actually made off on that top floor? It looks like a steel framework with just cladding, but must be an interior wall too - which seems to have been consumed too? Bit hard to see.

Thankful for no serious consequences, but is this an acceptable outcome of a fire in this sort of building?

This building - with cladding saying "not fire retardant" was flagged back in 2018

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/great...

Google maps imagery from 2019 shows it is still clad.
