Sacha Baron Cohen's brilliant ADL speech.
Discussion
If you have not listened to Sacha's ADL speech covering our current populist political landscape, racism and social media etc. then I suggest you take time out to listen.

A very impressive speech and some of our high profile politicians should really take note.

I found the speech to be very good and his thoughts on SM & MSM mirror my own which sometime I post on here but get shot down, so I walk away.
There were a few things I disagreed with but we cannot all agree on everything or life would be boring.
Overall great speech. Thanks for posting.

Brilliant? Wasn't it just a 24 minute long version of, "I believe in free speech, but certain people shouldn be allowed to have free speech". Slippery slope that thinking.
I will say the political things he was talking about, were somewhat valid. But my bone of contention, and way I see it is, I'd rather the d
head who wants to spout stuff like holocaust denial conspiracy theories, are doing it for all the world to see publically, to see how much of an idiot they are, and they're doing it on a place where there's a million pages of evidence to the contrary of their point, driving them away with draconian censorship brought in by the social media operators themselves, will just drive them into out of sight places where they can sit in an echo chamber with like minded people, then it becomes more of a problem, than it already is.

I think his point was that some of the material on social media would be illegal is spouted out on the street, and certainly on television. Why should SM be treated differently? I might agree that there is contrary evidence available to anyone who wants to look, but people don't look. That is the problem. Jews were killed in extermination camps, along with other groups. Denial of this can be used by right wing extremists as a lever. If it is, as they say, false news, then why believe historians? Also, why should historians write about an established, and well documented event? You don't get scientists proving that gravity exists.
People will believe, and to justify the support for their ideas, they will say that if it wasn't true, it would be banned.
Look at creationists. Totally nutty point of view, but we have people, politicians even, suggesting it should be given equal time in schools as scientific explanations. We get the suggestion evolution is Darwinism, but not that gravity is Newtonism, yet both are established fact.
I would agree that we need to be careful in any restriction of free expression, and people should be free to spout absurdities if they so wish, but a multi-national company should not be allowed to make money out of hate speech.
