It's the bks bit he did not like and i can see that. It's ok to say some would laugh at it, slightly more though would be offended by it.
It's unacceptable to put that on a car IMO. Same as "bks to Immigrants" "bks to the Jews" etc.

Driving round with Stop Brexit, would seem to cause no issue, whist still getting ones point across.

OT, I saw a woman I'd say in her 60s driving around with a sticker on the back saying "cheer up fkface". I will admit it made me chuckle, but I was surprised she's not been asked to remove it.

Politics aside, the police were mega wrong on this. The word was nowhere near a public order offence, and the qualified right to free speech allows, in most contexts, speech that might offend some. Old punks may recall that the Sex Pistols survived a challenge to their album title, back in the day.

The word bks in those contexts is the issue.
Compare "bks to xxxxxx whatever". to "stop xxxxxxx whatever"

The cop got him to get rid of the bks bit. I am comparing the word bks in the different contexts, yes, without the bks word, there is no real problem.

Ahh, I see. It’s the bks bit that’s offensive?

So ‘Stop Brexit/Immigrants/Jews’ or ‘I don’t want Brexit/Immigrants/Jews’ is OK by you?

Exactly. Mentalist. "Stop the jews!" would be okay but "bks to brexit" isnt laugh

This is just another morsel on the plate full of irony that is the LibDems.

They are the party that will end the division in this country. And yet they seem to feel saying bks to what a majority voted for is a decent first step in that endeavour.

The police should have let it slide. Like most of what the LibDems/remain fanatics seem to have been doing for some time, it'll end up counterproductive.

Yes Mind I doubt the car would survive being left unattended for long and if the bellend driving it
was upset by the police encounter it was probably for the best he removed his slogan

Looks like the Hammy Copper will be in trouble for his complete judgement lapse.

The red brexit mist obviously overcame him - it seemingly made him aggressive in the line of duty. Quite scary when you think about it. An on duty policeman enraged by something anti-brexit.

What a pillock. Suspension would send the right signal, if not dismissal.

To convict of the public order offence, the word needs to be threatening and it is not, or abusive which it is not.

Abusive is judged in context, and with realism. The word bks is a low order swear word, and in the light of cases such as Harvey v DPP (2011), R v Terry (2012), and Gough v DPP (2013), a section 5 prosecution would struggle. The fact that the word was used in the context of political speech, which is protected by article 10 ECHR, would be significant. A prosecution here would fall on its face.

The cop was therefore a knobhead. The same would be true if the sign said bks to Corbyn, bks to Boris, and so forth.
