£50 Million Jewellery Stolen. Escaped Through Open Window!

I learnt about this on the BBC this morning, and had to check to make sure that I hadn't misheard. £50 million worth of jewellery stolen from the home of Tamara Ecclestone (that's the tenuous car connection), who had left a window open......
I'm sure that this must be very distressing, but I can't get my head around much of the story. If I had £50 million spare to spend on sparkly stuff I'd give it away to the hundreds of local charities who do fantastic work and who are crying out for funds. And surely items of that value should be in a bank vault, not in someone's bedroom?
I'm not in any way jealous of wealth, and wouldn't want it for myself, but the sort of lifestyle depicted in the Daily Mail (sorry about that) story seem obscene to me.

I walk past along that street sometimes when in Hyde Park. No cars can access the street unless verified by police at either end. Her house in particular seems to always have more security hanging around than the embassies surrounding it. Yet they got in through an open window, knew where the jewellery was stashed, and the were out and away in less than an hour? Hmm.
Why do the Daily Mail always feel the need to continuously rewrite the same information throughout their stories? It’s painful to read.
Someone’s going to have a great Christmas at their (and the soon to be fired security guy’s) expense. I don’t feel any more or less sorry for her than anyone else who’s been a victim of burglary though.
I’m also struggling to work out how you’d open that front door with the wreath across it

Yeah, nobody should have to go through having their home violated like that on a personal level.
But, you do make yourself a target the more stuff you have and show off, doesn't make it right but you would think they would keep it a bit more low profile and failing that, you would think their security would have been better.
Good they were away, don't want people like that in your house when you have kids there.

Some may suggest the home owners maybe worse than the burglars in this case - The husband has associations with drug kingpins and was banned from working in the City for "market abuse", and daughter is BerniesGassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
