Barack Obama: “Women are better leaders than men”

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-50805822

The BBC and Obama said:
If women ran every country in the world there would be a general improvement in living standards and outcomes, former US President Barack Obama has said.
Speaking in Singapore, he said women aren't perfect, but are "indisputably better" than men.
He said most of the problems in the world came from old people, mostly men, holding onto positions of power.
Loads of women on sky news at the moment agreeing with him.

Seems like a contradiction saying women have different characteristics and traits that make them better leaders to men but then saying we should have more equality and genders are equal.

Presumably if they’re better leaders than men, they might actually be worse at other jobs than men?

Is it not just some empty words vaguely supporting Hillary's re-entrance in the US' longest running comedy show?

You don't think he meant Tulsi do you?

Not sure about leaders but my wife says that her worst bosses over her career have been women.

I dunno, some research seems to supports his views.

I will counter that with a Maggie Thatcher.

Even the question is stupid. Woman aren't a homogenous mix that you can make sweeping generalisations about.

As for research. if you research a stupid question you aren't likely to come out with anything other than a stupid answer.

I suggest the original comment was tongue in cheek and too much is being made of it.

Whatever her faults, she certainly knew how to lead.

You can making general statements about a population as a whole

ie, in general men are slightly more agressive than woman, men are slightly more objectionable than women etc etc If you take the 100 most aggressive people in a population then 98 will be men etc etc

In general, women tend to have smaller egos then men. This can, in general make them better leaders.

In general British queens have been more successful than british kings......

Park Geun-hye, Khaleda Zia and Yingluck Shinawatra show that women are just as susceptible to making mistakes as anyone else

Simple answer to that loaded question is no.

'Better' is subjective and doesn't need to be biased to one sex or the other as many women have a great ability and will rise to the top. Men have traditionally been promoted to the top job when the old fashioned family structure was the 'man is the head of the household' prevailed but modern western society has moved on from that belief and it's a more level playing field although not yet equitable in many industries.

The potential advantage of women leaders is that they would be pragmatic, and not get involved in all the macho crap which infests politics. The reality, however, is quite different - they all seem to feel it necessary to out-macho the men, so it doesn't make much difference who's in charge really.

The sex matters not, some people make good leaders, others poor. Sadly most of the poor ones seem to become politicians....

laugh

How many times has a female you have known ever admitted straight out that they were wrong? Its always with a caveat. That's the strength of a woman's ego

More scientifically wink

If you see 2 boxers after a match. Even with all the st talking that has happened in the build up, they are embracing. It's a male trait. Post-conflict reconciliatory behaviour has also been shown in primates*. It's a sort of reflex to get the beaten male back on your side. In primates, because it reduces the risk of that person becoming a threat afterwards. In politics we often see beaten leadership candidates given decent roles in the cabinet.

Women/Females don't exhibit that tendency. Its not hardwired in to them in the same way it's hardwired into a Male. Since throughout history, very few women have ever fought physically in the way the hunter gatherer male does.

It's also what makes them such ste managers. laugh Once they are decided they are right. That's it. If you go against them, even if you are proven to be correct, they will rarely try to win you round. But their ego will spite you.
