This week two hardcore remainer types I know (the type who were out protesting regularly) have annouced they are leaving UK before freedom of movement is ended. Property being sold, new occupations found in EU countries.

They don't know each other so must be a reasonable number who are off. They are terrified of their freedom of movement rights being removed and want to gain citizenship for the EU.

Anyone here leaving?

Plenty of opportunities to secure an addition/alternative passport to ensure FofM continuity for those of us that require the benefits of borderless European travel.

Yeah, just like all the celebs that were going to go to Canada if Trump won. And we're still waiting for this:

+1 and more importantly ensured my kids have it.

ETA not that I'm remotely "hardcore remainer", just keeping my options open.

I suppose they are the types that feel the world must revolve around them and a little extra time at passport control will be such an inconvenience, but then I guess they have never travelled outside the EU or they would know all about it. They will soon get irritated by whatever country they move to because they sound like whingers, unable to get what they want when they want it and and will return to the UK within 3 years.

How much did it cost and is it a requirement you or your parents are actually Irish?

If you’ve got an Irish grand parent you can get citizenship. I’m eligible but not entirely sure what the benefits are.

The most vocal Remainer I know claimed he was fleeing to an EU country. However he’s discovered his ‘skills’ and CV as a career student at the age of 36 are pretty useless... plus he only speaks English so is quite limited on his destination.

A couple of friends are heading to Germany where they’d worked before although I think it’s a mix of opportunity more than a desire to flee. Another has a holiday home in France and is active in the community so is retiring to there a year earlier than planned.

Same here. I'm not going anywhere, but why not when I can. Would have done it decades ago if I knew I could have, anyway.

Nothing's been settled so let's see.

I've lived in Europe for several years before. I would certainly like to again. Having that potentially denied to me is not a result. Since I'm a total dosser it's not as if I'll ever get there with my skillz.

If I could get an Irish passport I would've had one years ago. Spending five years as an immigrant to get one sounds like hard work. It might be the only way though.

I like living in Britain. I also like living elsewhere. I would consider leaving to keep the option of living elsewhere at the drop of a hat alive. There's nothing particularly compelling keeping me here.
