It is a different Tory now, and needs to be. Look at the headline, ‘OneTory Nation’, changes are needed to be in action for too many decades Governments have wasted, especially the National infrastructure.

You could build the International Space Station for the same money.

But that won't unlock regional capacity in the north east public transport sector

I'm sure it'll be wonderful for people in the North, I'm not in the north and it seems like a whole lot of money to be spending on something that the majority of people in this country won't be using

Not sure what National Public Radio in the USA has to do with it, perhaps you intended me to google something else?

Alternatively you could just make the argument yourself if you have one

Crossrail?
3rd Heathrow runway?
You could say the same about every major infrastructure project.

Careful. In the run up to the election the Corbyn fans were trying to convince us that the Conservative party was now hard right.

Those also seem like a lot of money to spend when the use to the majority of people is limited. When roads are starting to resemble farm tracks I feel quite strongly that money should be used repairing what is already fked before embarking on other transport projects

At risk of derailing (!) this thread, we need to make the north more appealing for people and business (who aren't already there) to relocate to, and I see no reason why HS2 accomplishes this. If anything it will make it easier for those looking to get a job in London pick up sticks and move more easily.

This is where you win elections and stay in power, Red Tory, blue labour, Blairite, one nation Tory. Take over the middle ground and keep your core voters happy and there’s nowhere else for your own more frothy supporters like the OP to go anyway.

Boris always said he was a classic one nation Tory, recent budget with massive public sector spending suggests so also.
