Found dead in her apartment this afternoon, aged 40. I'd guess suicide, sacked from Love Island, due in court next month for assaulting her boyfriend, hounded by the press.....

Sad but not surprising really given the flack she has taken over the last couple of months and not being the most stable mentally if any of the stories are to be believed

Maybe I'm just not "down with the kids" in terms of my celebrity awareness, but I was surprised by the recent assault coverage. Based on what little I'd seen of her prior to that she seemed okay to me. Clearly she had some serious issues and we still have some way to go in terms of understanding mental health... and the media has a long way to go in terms of not making a freak show of people's meltdowns.

Sad news. Actually shocked and I don’t follow celebs. The media have a lot to answer for.

Awful but honestly not a surprise.

There are times you see and read about people in the media where your every instinct is that the coverage really isn't doing them any favours.

The media don't learn sadly.

My extremely tenuous connection to Caroline flack is that for 3.5 years I lived 4 flats down from her in a development in bow.

Never really heard a peep out of her, and she used to pop over the road to the pub sometimes, but she seemed to constantly get her range rover clamped In the carpark. I emailed her manager about it a couple of times to save her from getting it lifted but i didn't get a reply so I stopped bothering after a while.

isn't it the court case and her own actions that might have led to this point?

Yep, it wasn't the media who smacked her sleeping boyfriend over the head with a lamp.

I posted similar on the first dates tv thread-they actively search out people with mental health conditions to make for "good tv".

Oh how the audience laughed at another mentally disabled person's attempts to sing for the judges on the x factor first round.

I'm no bleeding heart liberal but in years to come it'll be looked on in the same way we do 1970s racism now.

There’s an argument that if all defendants had anonymity before conviction this would never have happened

What a tragic waste of a life.

I'd imagine if you have any mental health issues at all being in the public eye must be horrendous. Her poor family.

This post nicely highlights the problem, she hadn't even stood trial yet but the press absolutely destroyed her (and have now quickly removed the tens of stories published about her in recent months).

I do wonder who the hell still reads the tabloid press and their websites, but then I remember that even the PH forums are full of links to Daily Mail articles.

Wow. What a rapid and tragic downfall.

She was quite a personality for sure, terrible way for anyway to go.
